Project Engineer
We are an energy services company reinventing the way energy is used in buildings. We engineer energy upgrades, implement them, and track savings to ensure lasting impact. Our clients include many Fortune 500 companies, and our services span:
Engineering — ASHRAE Level 1, 2, and 3 audits, retro-commissioning
Energy project implementation
Ongoing data analytics, fault detection, and diagnosis (FDD)
About the Role We are seeking a driven Project Engineer who can run energy upgrade projects end to end and who is ready to take on big responsibilities in a growing, passionate team.
In this role, you will work on projects ranging from $50,000 to $4 million, supporting energy engineering and energy upgrades from start to finish — including lighting, HVAC, controls, building envelope improvements, and compliance audits (ASHRAE Level I and II). Your focus is owning the project: budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and on-site execution, working closely with our engineers on the technical scope. A construction or engineering background matters more than deep energy-specific expertise, which you will build on the job.
Expect to be on-site at client buildings across California roughly 30% of the time, with occasional travel beyond the region.
Responsibilities Conduct site visits to assess and document existing building conditions
Collaborate with engineers to design high-value energy-saving measures
Develop project reports, including audit reports, scopes of work and bid packages
Request and manage subcontractor bid evaluations and selections
Process RFIs and review material submittals to confirm they meet project specifications
Build and maintain AI-driven workflows and automations that support engineering and project delivery, growing toward an AI-architect role
Drive project budgets, schedules, and on-site execution
Clearly and effectively communicate with team and client, ensuring satisfaction and successful outcomes
Coordinate onsite staff and contractors and manage scope changes and change orders
Work with the project team to enforce safety requirements and maintain quality-control standards on site
Deliver timely submittals and Operations and Maintenance Manuals
Bridge between field realities and engineering design to meet or exceed energy saving goals
Collect, review and run calculations based on large data sets
Required Qualifications 3+ years managing construction or implementation projects (general contracting, MEP, energy, or related), including budgets, schedules, and subcontractors
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field — or equivalent project experience
Strong problem-solving skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple projects independently
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Customer-focused and professional demeanor
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Project
Willingness and ability to travel regionally and nationally
Clean DMV record
Bonus Skills Master’s Degree preferably in STEM/Engineering related
Proficiency working with large language models for research and reporting
Engineering background (mechanical, electrical, chemical, or related fields)
Experience conducting compliance audits (ASHRAE Level I or II)
Familiarity with energy efficiency technologies and retro-commissioning (RCx)
Experience with control system programming or building automation systems
Knowledge of facilities maintenance practices and standards
Strong data entry and calculation skills, especially for energy modeling
Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in various indoor/outdoor conditions
Physical Requirements Ability to work on-site in commercial buildings, sometimes in tight, enclosed, or elevated spaces (e.g., mechanical rooms, rooftops, crawlspaces)
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8+ hours per day)
Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds
