Program Manager

Climate Action Pathways for Schools (CAPS) is aCalifornia-based nonprofit organization that partners with school communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money. CAPS provides paid internships for high school students in under-resourced communities that help them prepare for highly-skilled college and career pathways and support them in the development of projects that mitigate climate change in their local community. We are seeking an experienced program manager who is passionate about advancing public education, environmental sustainability, and equitable clean energy economy and to join our team. The program manager will lead an ambitious climate action program in Porterville Unified School District, located in Tulare County. This position will guide the work of paid high school interns who will develop, implement, and evolve their school community’s climate action plan. Primary Responsibilities: Lead work-based learning program in Porterville Unified School District’s Pathways Department Recruit high school students to participate in the program Provide orientation and ongoing training for student interns to help them build knowledge and skills necessary to develop and implement climate action projects in their school district Assign interns projects and and provide ongoing mentoring and support Conduct program evaluations and provide feedback to support intern’s learning and success Develop green careers extended learning opportunities for elementary and middle schools Serve as a PUSD Pathways Department team member, attending weekly team meetings, serving as a liaison with industry and community partners, and advising on the integration of green careers into relevant district career pathways Lead the implementation of district climate action plans, which encompasses the key areas of building decarbonization, transportation, food, water, and waste Create work plans and project manage implementation Monitor and track energy usage at Porterville Unified School District Present to district leadership (assistant superintendent, director of facilities, and assistant director of facilities) on energy performance on a monthly basis Gather input from teachers, administrators, maintenance staff, parents, and community and industry partners to ensure community needs and priorities are reflected in the design and implementation of climate action plans and projects Support the growth of CAPS programs Assist with recruiting and onboard new school districts Assist with identifying funding opportunities and developing proposals to support the implementation of climate action plans Document best practices to help CAPS scale programs Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to operationalizing equity, inclusion, justice, and antiracist values and practices Exceptional educator with success in developing career and technical education programs that focus on energy systems, environmental sustainability, or environmental justice Proven ability to manage, collaborate, and communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, district administrators, curriculum and instruction personnel, and facilities staff; preference will be given to individuals who have experience bringing groups together to support districtwide planning and the ability to affect change at the school district level Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail Outstanding analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills Ability to be effective independently in a remote environment, while also being a resourceful team-player Grant writing and proposal development experience is desirable Proficiency with Google Docs and Microsoft Office Suite Proficiency with EPA’s Energy Star Portfolio Manager a plus Experience and Education: Candidates must have a minimum of three years of applicable teaching experience in K–12 schools or equivalent setting and experience in managing and developing climate, environment, or sustainability education programs. A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in environmental science, engineering, or education. Location: The position will work in-person from Porterville Unified School District, with occasional in-state travel required.
