The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Health & Disease is recruiting a full-time Research Assistant to work under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) on sponsored research projects performing standard and complex laboratory procedures in the field of vascular biology with specialization in mouse models of atherosclerosis and abdominal aortic aneurysm. Essential Functions Maintain and propagate an experimental mouse colony (colony management and animal husbandry). Aid members of the laboratory in conducting experiments (mouse experiments, cell experiments, and molecular/vascular biology), as well as conducting individually assigned experiments, according to research protocols. Organize and centralize files and records for the laboratory. Order supplies and organize monthly financial statements. Perform duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time. Required Education Bachelor's Degree. Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement. Required Experience Must have substantial mouse colony management experience and/or be comfortable with working with mice. Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline. Hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts of machinery or tools used to perform work, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals. Atmospheric Conditions: Conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
