In this pivotal role, you will lead the underwriting process for approving or rejecting merchant accounts, ensuring risk assessment accuracy and compliance with industry regulations. Your expertise will drive informed lending decisions, support portfolio growth, and uphold our commitment to financial integrity. Responsibilities The Lead Underwriter is responsible for reviewing and decisioning merchant applications, assessing overall risk, and ensuring submissions meet paycosmos, sponsor bank, and compliance requirements. Responsibilities include reviewing merchant applications, processing history, financials, websites, ownership details, and supporting documentation; evaluating chargeback, fraud, refund risk; preparing underwriting packages for sponsor bank review where applicable; issuing approval, conditional approval, reserve, funding, or decline recommendations; and supporting ongoing portfolio monitoring. This role also requires clear communication with internal teams, partners, merchants, and sponsor banks regarding pending items, risk concerns, approvals, declines, and mitigation requirements. Skills The ideal candidate should have strong underwriting, risk review, and analytical experience, with the ability to evaluate business applications, financial documents, websites, ownership information, and supporting materials. Candidates should have strong attention to detail, sound judgment, clear communication skills, and the ability to identify potential risk concerns. Leadership experience, organization, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple reviews in a fast-paced environment are strongly preferred.
