Job Description Role SummaryOur client, a manufacturer of commercial refrigeration and food equipment systems, is seeking a hands-on Lab Engineer to support testing and validation activities for refrigeration products. This is an individual contributor role focused on executing and supporting lab-based testing initiatives across multiple engineering functions including R&D, new product development, controls, quality, and field service.The role emphasizes applying engineering fundamentals and the scientific method to testing, data analysis, and problem-solving within a laboratory environment.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan and coordinate test projects, including timelines and stakeholder alignmentDevelop formal test plans, including Design of Experiments (DOE), work instructions, and safety proceduresDesign and build test equipment and data acquisition systemsDevelop and implement data acquisition programsCreate and interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), electrical schematics, and structural drawingsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to support lab testing across multiple product lines (e.g., refrigeration systems, display cases, and related equipment)Collect, manage, analyze, and report test data to ensure accuracy and validityTroubleshoot and resolve issues related to equipment, software, and network systemsSupport ongoing test operations and provide feedback to engineering teamsContribute to new product development and technology innovation effortsGuide lab technicians on maintenance, calibration, and upgrades of lab equipmentEnsure lab safety compliance and coordinate inspectionsAssist in lab utilization planning and continuous improvement of lab processesParticipate in cross-functional coordination to maintain efficient lab operationsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field1–5 years of experience working with refrigeration, HVAC, or related systemsExperience working in a lab or testing environmentExperience with data acquisition systems and programmingPreferred QualificationsTechnical SkillsProficiency with Microsoft Office toolsExperience with AutoCAD or similar CAD softwareStrong understanding of thermodynamics and heat transferFamiliarity with:Electrical wiring diagrams and control systemsRefrigeration systems and controllersPiping diagrams and instrumentationRefrigerants (EPA Section 608 certification is a plus)Experience troubleshooting refrigeration systems, electrical systems, and controlsFamiliarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar toolsBasic knowledge of computer networkingExperience with industrial controllers and programming languages (a plus)Professional SkillsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to collaborate across teams and functionsSolid project management and organizational skillsHigh attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilityAbility to maintain professionalism and confidentialityAdditional InformationCoursework in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, refrigeration/air conditioning, electrical systems, and engineering design is highly relevantTravel requirement: approximately 5–10% for site visits, testing observation, and industry eventsCompensation & Work ModelOnsite role within a lab/testing environmentTravel required up to 5–10%Compensation not specified
