YOU MUST BE A CURRENT METRO TECHNOLOGY EMPLOYEE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITIONSummary ObjectiveThis position provides enterprise-level leadership and accountability for Louisville Metro Government's mission critical network, telecommunications, and connectivity infrastructure, including wide-area and local-area networks, public safety communications interfaces, voice systems, wireless infrastructure, data transport, and network security controls.The role is responsible for architecting, securing, modernizing, and ensuring 24x7 availability of mission-critical connectivity services that directly support public safety, emergency response, transportation systems, utilities, and citywide operations.This class operates under general administrative direction, exercising significant independent judgment, authority over technical standards, and responsibility for systems whose failure would result in material operational, safety, or financial impact to the Metro Government.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Provides strategic and operational leadership for enterprise network and telecommunications services, including:Core and edge network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, fiber, MPLS, SD-WAN)Voice and unified communications (VoIP, SIP, E911 interfaces)Wireless systems (Wi-Fi, point-to-point, public safety integrations)Network security controls and segmentationServes as the design authority for network and telecom architecture, establishing technical standards, reference architectures, and lifecycle roadmaps.Supervises and develops highly technical staff, including senior network engineers and telecom specialists.Oversees high-availability, fault-tolerant systems supporting public safety, transportation, utilities, and emergency operations; directs network operations, monitoring, incident response, and root-cause analysis for outages and security events.Manages configuration, management, and integration of Cisco routing, switching, and wireless technologies; collaborates with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with Metro's security policies.Conducts capacity planning, performance optimization, and evaluates emerging technologies for strategic fit; manages vendor relationships and sourcing decisions.Develops and maintains documentation including network diagrams, configuration baselines, and operational procedures.Mentors and trains network engineers and support staff on best practices and new technologies.Promotes continuous improvement in network reliability, automation, and observability.Performs related work as assigned.MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related field.* Seven (7) years of professional experience in enterprise network engineering, network architecture, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, including at least three years in a senior technical role and at least three years of supervisory experience.OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:CCNP or equivalent certificationMust provide one's own source of transportation.Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.Must submit to fingerprinting for criminal history check.Must complete annual security awareness training.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.* Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.* None.AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMPLIANCELouisville Metro Government is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
