HOOVER SCHRUM MEMORIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT 157POSITION: ANTICIPATED PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERReports To: Principal or DesigneePosition Type: Certified Teaching PositionPosition SummaryThe Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging physical education instruction for middle school students in grades 68. The teacher promotes physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles while creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. Responsibilities include assessing student progress, adapting instruction to meet diverse student needs, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with staff, families, and the school community.Essential ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to: Plan and implement standards-based physical education lessons and activities aligned with district curriculum. Prepare and organize gymnasium spaces, equipment, and instructional materials for daily activities. Teach movement skills, fitness concepts, sportsmanship, teamwork, and safety procedures related to physical activities. Monitor student participation and assess student progress, including fitness assessments and skill development. Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment during indoor and outdoor activities. Implement accommodations and modifications in accordance with student IEPs and 504 Plans. Supervise students in the gymnasium, cafeteria, blacktop, athletic fields, and other assigned areas. Participate in school-wide behavior support systems and document student concerns as needed. Maintain accurate student records, progress reports, and report cards in accordance with district procedures. Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and administrators regarding student progress and needs. Coordinate and support school fitness events, field days, and wellness-related activities as assigned. Monitor the use, care, and inventory of physical education equipment and facilities. Attend staff meetings, professional development activities, and required district trainings. Prepare substitute lesson plans and emergency instructional materials as required. Participate in emergency drills and follow all district safety procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned by the building administrator consistent with school operations and district goals.QualificationsEducation/ Licensure Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field. Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate Physical Education endorsement.Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Knowledge of physical education curriculum, instructional practices, and student assessment methods. Understanding of diverse learning styles and student developmental needs. Ability to create engaging and inclusive learning experiences for students of varying abilities. Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and staff. Regular and reliable attendance.Physical Requirements / Work Environment Ability to actively participate in and demonstrate physical activities. Ability to lift, move, and set up physical education equipment as needed.
