Tool Crib Technician / Tooling Setup Specialist Location: Wichita, KS (On-site) Shift: Weekday 1st Shift Pay 19 - $25 DOE Job Type: Full-time About Axiom Engineering Axiom Engineering is a Wichita-based aerospace manufacturer producing high-precision CNC machined components and small assemblies for major aerospace and defense customers. This position supports CNC machining operations by preparing tooling, holders, fixtures, and setup components exactly per documentation—ensuring machinists can run efficiently with the right tools ready to go. ITAR / CUI Eligibility Requirement (Required) Axiom is ITAR-registered and performs defense-related work. This position requires access to Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Candidates must be a “U.S. Person” under ITAR (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident/green card holder, or protected individual). We cannot sponsor work authorization for this role. You must have experience working with CNC tooling, setup documentation, and shop processes in a production environment. What You’ll Do Assemble tooling per setup sheets, job packets, and engineering/NC documentation Select correct toolholders, cutters, collets, and extensions for each operation Set tools in holders accurately (length offsets, gauge lengths, proper torque, cleanliness) Pull and stage all required tooling, fixturing, vises, soft jaws, and accessories for each job Maintain the tool crib in a clean, organized, and well-documented state Track inventory and notify supervision when tooling, cutters, or fixtures need replenishment Work closely with setup personnel and machinists to support smooth job transitions Ensure all tooling meets quality, condition, and readiness standards before release to machining What We’re Looking For 2–5+ years working in an aerospace CNC machining environment Strong understanding of cutters, toolholders, collets, shrink-fit systems (if applicable), and common machining tooling Ability to read setup documents, tooling lists, and engineering drawings Accurate, organized, and disciplined—able to assemble and stage tooling with zero shortcuts Professional, reliable, and self-directed, with strong attention to detail Ability to support multiple jobs in process and maintain tooling flow across the shop Strongly Preferred Experience preparing tooling for 3-, 4-, or 5-axis milling operations Familiarity with aluminum, stainless, and titanium tooling strategies Experience using presetters or manually setting tool lengths Understanding of cutter wear, life tracking, and tool condition inspection Prior tool crib or CNC setup experience in aerospace Professional Standards & Policies Cell phones: Not allowed on the production floor; must remain in lockers except during breaks. Attendance: Must be reliable, punctual, and consistent every day. Process discipline: All tooling must be assembled exactly as documented—no improvisation. Interview expectations: Arrive prepared and on time. Late arrivals cancel the interview. Pay Pay is DOE, based on experience with aerospace tooling, setup capability, precision, and ability to support production independently.
