Complex Fabricators produces precision parts for a variety of markets, including aerospace customers. We are in a phase of growth and are seeking an exceptional Day Shift Lead Machinist with experience in setting up mills and lathes independently, a strong attention to detail, the ability and desire to mentor less-experienced team members, a positive attitude, and a commitment to lean manufacturing.

Position Summary
The Day Shift Lead Machinist is responsible for overseeing daily machining operations while actively contributing on the floor. This role requires a highly skilled machinist capable of independently setting up and operating CNC equipment—including vertical mills, horizontal mills, and lathes—without assistance. The Lead Machinist ensures production goals are met, quality standards are upheld, and team members are supported and developed.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
Lead, mentor, and support a team of machinists and operators during the day shift
Assign work, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to production schedules
Serve as the primary point of contact for machining-related issues on shift
Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Assist in training and onboarding new machinists
Machining & Setup
Independently set up and operate CNC vertical mills, horizontal mills, and lathes without assistance
Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings
Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work holding solutions for efficient production
Perform first article inspections and in-process quality checks
Optimize setups and machining processes to improve cycle times and reduce scrap
Production & Process Improvement
Ensure jobs are completed on time and meet quality standards
Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions
Collaborate with engineering and programming teams to refine processes
Drive lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
Maintain accurate production and setup documentation
Quality & Safety
Ensure compliance with all quality standards and specifications
Enforce safety policies and proper use of PPE
Maintain a clean and organized work environment (5S standards)
Identify and report potential safety hazards
Qualifications
Required
10+ years of CNC machining experience, including leadership or lead role experience
Proven ability to independently set up and run:
CNC vertical mills
CNC horizontal mills
CNC lathes
Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading
Experience with a variety of materials (e.g., aluminum, stainless steel, alloy steels)
Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.)
Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Preferred
Experience in aerospace, medical, or high-precision manufacturing environments
Familiarity with multi-axis machining (4-axis, 5-axis)
CNC programming or editing experience (preferably GibbsCAM)
Machining certificate or formal technical training
