We offer patients convenient access to innovative treatments and advancements that improve the health and overall well-being of our community.ResponsibilitiesProvides professional nursing care to patients in a variety of outpatient clinic settings in the Pediatric Cardiology DivisionParticipates in direct patient care activities under the supervision of a provider or advanced practitionerAssesses health status by completing a nursing assessmentEducates patients about medication and special diets, preparing, and administering medication as directed, symptom management, and providing additional information related to community resources.The Clinic RN can send new or refills for prescriptions as directed, performs in office procedures within scope, assists with wound care and dressing changes as directed by overseeing provider, medication administration, in office spirometry, assist with administering screening questionnaires, venipuncture or point of care laboratory testing. Hearing or vision screening, obtaining vital signs and additional in office testing as needed for the specialty.Contacts the patient/caregiver/family for all results and provides further education as directed by the ordering/overseeing provider. Documents all patient interaction efficiently within the electronic medical record.The Clinic RN can start an IV and administer fluids as ordered by the overseeing provider.Performs telephone symptom triage and assessment. Uses standing orders and approved protocols to educate and guide patients based on assessments.Uses standing orders and protocols to review patient results and provide instruction under the direction of a physician or advanced practitioner.The Clinic RN will be responsible for reviewing all incoming results for urgency and abnormality and escalate the provider for immediate attention.Collaborates with care team to ensure smooth and effective transitions of carePrepares or supervises preparation of clinic rooms and equipment for use as well as supports supplies ordering by maintaining inventories and participate as directed.Assists with specialized diagnostic and therapeutic proceduresAssists with specialized patient care equipment as required by the clinical department and medical specialty assignedAdministers medications and treatments as ordered by provider and monitors patients for responseInitiates CPR and other emergency measures per protocolCovers other nursing roles within the departmentProvides health education to patients and familiesAssists in preparation of the department-specific education for patients and colleaguesPerforms or delegates administrative duties such as understanding office computer applications, answering phones, welcoming patients, updating, and filing patient medical records, completing insurance forms, scheduling appointments and handling correspondence; arranges and schedules hospital admissions and other ancillary services and referrals to other providersBasic coding and filling of insurance forms and conducting preauthorization work and obtaining appropriate certificationsParticipates in quality initiatives, process improvements, and research activities to improve patient outcomes, patient experience, and patient safetyMaintains professional growth and development in the nursing field and identified annual core competenciesMaintains patient recordsCompletes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirementsAdheres to current Infection Control and Safety StandardsRegular and prompt attendanceAbility to work schedule as defined and overtime as requiredRelated duties as assignedAdditional InformationEmployees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.QualificationsGraduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standard set by the state of Alabama RequiredComparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action EmployerThe University of South Alabama is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, age, genetic information, disability, protected veteran status or any other applicable legally protected basis.
