Sr. Geotechnical Engineer (Practice Leader)

Dayton or Toledo, Ohio (Open to Relocation)Position Overview This employee will perform geotechnical and civil engineering services under the supervision of the Toledo Operations Manager. Employees may also provide field engineering consulting services as coordinated with the construction services department.Key ResponsibilitiesGeotechnical exploration planning and budgeting including, but not limited to: Review of project drawings and specificationsReview of geologic conditions and prior subsurface informationPreparation of subsurface exploration, laboratory and engineering scopes of workPreparation of subsurface exploration, laboratory and engineering quotationsPreparation of quotation documents, qualifications documents and other engineering marketing documentsGeotechnical engineering analysis and design including but not limited to:Review and visual classification of soil boring samples,Review and interpretation of field boring logs and laboratory dataSoil characterization including strength and compressibility,Shallow foundation design, including immediate and total settlement predictionsDeep foundation designs, including lateral loading analysis and deflection prediction,Flexible and rigid pavement designsRetaining wall analysis and designSlope stability analysis and designCharacterization of sites concerning seismic activityGeo-structural engineering analysis and design of:Excavation bracing and shoring systemsEarth retaining structuresShoreline stabilization and protection structures, bulkheads, and wallsUnderpinning systemsField engineering activities include but are not limited to: Perform field testing utilizing necessary equipment and instrumentation,Evaluation of shallow foundation sub-grade conditions,Characterization of OSHA soil types for temporary excavationsEvaluations of pavement and structure sub-gradesSoil stabilization consultationsConstruction materials sampling and evaluationsPreparation of field engineering reports.Business development activities include but are not limited to:Preparation of case histories and other marketing documentsParticipation in professional and trade organizationsPresentations to clients and trade organizations on geotechnical engineering topics.Education & ExperienceBachelor of Science in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited institutionMasters degree with specialization in geotechnical engineeringMust be a licensed Professional EngineerMinimum ten (10) years related geotechnical/civil engineering experience preferred.Desired Skills and AttributesMust possess strong technical, interpersonal, and communication skills.Must possess the ability, desire, and drive to develop into a leadership role within the Toledo office and company organization.Must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet project deadlinesMust be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Must be willing to travel as required for projects (most travel is within 90 miles of assigned office).Must be willing to participate in client development activities outside of regular work hours.Reporting RelationshipsToledo Operations ManagerDirector of Engineering and Environmental Services DivisionResponsive to other company managers Physical RequirementsPhysical AbilityMust be able to stand, walk, push, pull, twist, reach overhead, bend, crawl, climb; lift a minimum of 50 poundsVisual AbilityVisual accommodation necessary for reading instructions/materials required to perform functions of the jobHearing AbilityAbility to monitor sounds for changes in machine functionWork ConditionsWork exposes the employee to traffic hazards and the hazards of construction sites including dangers of moving heavy equipment, inclement weather conditions, and high noise levels.
