Visit and explore our culture on LinkedIn and Instagram.Role SummaryThe Land Survey Party Chief leads field survey crews at SSR, directing the collection of land, boundary, topographic, construction, and infrastructure data across a variety of project types. This role ensures surveys are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, legal standards, and applicable regulations. The Party Chief serves as the primary point of accountability in the field – coordinating with project managers, engineers, and clients while upholding SSR’s commitment to quality and safety.What You’ll DoLead and coordinate field survey crews across a range of project types, ensuring precision, safety, and delivery in every assignment.Supervise crew members during daily field operations, providing direction, mentorship, and quality oversightExecute boundary, topographic, construction staking, ALTA/NSPS, route, and as-built surveysOperate, calibrate, and maintain survey equipment including total stations, GPS/GNSS systems, levels, and data collectorsInterpret engineering plans, deeds, plats, and legal descriptions to guide field activitiesSet and verify survey monuments, hubs, stakes, and control points with a high degree of accuracyCoordinate field activities with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to meet project schedulesPrepare accurate daily field notes, sketches, reports, and documentation for project recordsReview collected data for completeness and accuracy, troubleshooting field issues as they ariseEnforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements, including safe operations around traffic, construction zones, and challenging terrainEnsure crew vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and field-readyMinimum RequirementsWho We’re Looking ForHigh school diploma or GED required3–7+ years of land surveying experiencePrior experience leading or supervising a survey crewProficiency with Trimble equipment and data collection systemsStrong knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and proceduresAbility to read and interpret construction plans and legal documentsValid driver’s license with an acceptable driving recordAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, traverse uneven terrain, and lift equipment up to 50 poundsAbility to stand, bend, climb, and kneel for extended periods.Preferred QualificationsAssociate degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering technology, or a related fieldExperience with Trimble Business Center and/or AutoCAD Civil 3DUnderstanding of coordinate systems and control networksFamiliarity with GIS platforms and drone/UAS mappingStrong leadership presence with excellent communication and organizational skillsDemonstrated attention to detail, problem-solving capability, and ability to work independentlyTypical Work EnvironmentOutdoor field work on construction sites, roadways, underdeveloped land, and urban environments.Occasional office work for data review and project coordination.Travel to project locations may be required.What We Offer100% Employee-Owned – Ownership from day one with immediate ESOP vesting.Retirement Savings – 401(k) with immediate vesting and a generous company match.Health & Wellness – Medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus company-funded HSA contributions for HDHP plans.Company-Paid Protection – Life insurance, AD&D, and short and long term disability at no cost to you.Work-Life Balance – Flexible schedules, paid parental leave, generous PTO, and paid company holidays.Career Growth – Tuition reimbursement and ongoing professional development support.SSR is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action EmployerEEO Disabled/VeteransThis job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.Recruiters or staffing agencies: SSR is not obligated to compensate any external recruiter or search firm who presents a candidate, their resume, or profile to an SSR employee without 1) a current, fully executed agreement on file and 2) being assigned to the open position via HR
