Tailings & Water Operations Engineer (RTWOE)We are recruiting on behalf of a leading mining operation for an experienced Tailings and Water Operations Engineer to oversee tailings storage facilities (TSFs) and associated water management systems across active and legacy sites.This role is accountable for ensuring the integrity, safety, compliance, and long-term risk management of tailings and water infrastructure. It is a field-intensive position requiring strong on-site presence and collaboration with operational, technical, and corporate teams.Key Responsibilities:Tailings and Water ManagementAct as the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer, ensuring the stability and integrity of TSFsOversee tailings deposition and water management strategies, including storage, removal, and reclamationConduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for geotechnical and hydrological risksReview and challenge Engineer of Record (EoR) recommendations in line with global tailings standardsDevelop and maintain Emergency Response Plans and OMS (Operations, Maintenance & Surveillance) ManualsOversee monitoring systems, instrumentation planning, and data analysis including QA/QC processesCompliance and GovernanceEnsure compliance with international standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. ICMM, GISTM, ISO standards)Collaborate with corporate technical teams and site leadership to maintain strong governance practicesParticipate in third-party inspections, audits, and technical reviewsEnsure implementation of audit findings and continuous improvement actionsSupport emergency preparedness and crisis response planningTrack and report KPIs related to tailings and water management performanceTechnical OversightProvide technical review of TSF and water system projects delivered internally or by external consultantsSupport long-term risk management strategies including closure planning and climate resilienceUtilise advanced modelling tools to assess water balance, storage, and system performanceDrive continuous improvement across tailings and water management practicesTraining & DevelopmentDevelop and deliver structured training programmes for operators and engineering teamsSupport succession planning and mentoring of junior engineersContribute to internal knowledge sharing and industry best practice initiativesRequirements:Minimum 5 years’ experience in tailings and/or water management within a mining or heavy industrial environmentStrong technical expertise in geotechnical engineering, hydrology, and TSF stabilityExperience working within regulatory and governance frameworksStrong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skillsAbility to work in a field-based, operational environmentTechnical Skills:Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3DKnowledge of water modelling tools (e.g. HEC-RAS, GoldSim) advantageousExperience with tailings modelling software (e.g. Muk3D) desirableEducation & Certifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Civil, Geotechnical, Environmental Engineering, or related disciplineEngineer-in-Training (EIT) requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) status required or to be obtained within a defined timeframeBenefits (Effective from Day One)Employees are eligible for benefits from the first day of employment.Health & MedicalMedical, Prescription, Dental, and Vision cover for employees and dependentsChoice of PPO and HRA medical plansCompany-funded HRA for eligible healthcare expensesPreventive care covered at 100% (in-network)Annual wellness programme with incentive discountsInsurance & ProtectionBasic Life Insurance (2x annual salary) and AD&D at no costOptional supplemental life insurance for employees and dependentsShort-Term and Long-Term Disability coverRetirement & Financial401(k) with company contributionFlexible Spending Accounts (healthcare and dependent care)Additional BenefitsEmployee Assistance Programme (24/7 support)Legal services planPet insurance optionsEmployee discount platform (retail, travel, entertainment)If you're an experienced Water Tailings Engineer looking to take the next step in your career, we’d like to hear from you.
