Job Title:Maintenance Mechanic IV (First Shift)Department:Campus OperationsWork Location:Main CampusDuties:Under the direction, The Maintenance Mechanic IV maintains and repairs all college electrical, plumbing and heating and cooling systems and programs and operates building automaton systems. The Maintenance Mechanic IV is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.Essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Receives work assignments, work orders, and instructions from the Maintenance Supervisor or the Lead Maintenance Mechanic.2. Study and interpret mechanical or electrical blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings or sketches to install new equipment or troubleshoot mechanical or electrical problems; plans and determines working procedures and tool and materials requirements.3. Correct defective mechanical devices and other equipment by disassembling, installing new parts, refitting; adjusts and maintains mechanical equipment.4. Install air, water, gas and refrigerant lines; repair and maintain plumbing.5. Repair and maintain temperature control systems.6. Repair and maintain all college HVAC systems.7. Repair and maintain AC & DC electrical systems.8. Repair and maintain electronic equipment and systems.9. Operate and program the building automation system.10. Responsible for the maintenance of the college’s swimming pool.11. Clean boilers, add chemicals to boiler water, cooling towers and closed water systems. Make chemical tests as required and keeps boiler house log. May act as lead worker in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Lead Maintenance Mechanic or Senior Mechanic.Education/Experience:High school or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of eight (8) years of work experience as a skilled maintenance mechanic required.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMoraine Valley Community College approved Heating and Air Conditioning Certificate or equivalent, City of Chicago Stationary Engineer’s License, or a related approved apprenticeship and training program;Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to qualify as insurable by college liability insurance carrier. Illinois Swimming Pool Operators certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health and EPA approved Universal or Type III Technician Certification within twelve months of employment. Certificate of Completion of Johnson Controls Metasys EMS System and EPA approved Universal or Type III Technician Certification is preferred.Qualifications:Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and written instructions.Ability to communicate effectively and respond to college personnel.Basic computational skills.Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.Demonstrate required knowledge of test equipment, shop machinery and hand tools to perform diverse repair operations.Demonstrate knowledge of heating and cooling systems in order to troubleshoot and make extensive repairs.Demonstrate knowledge of building automation systems including basic programming and ability to make modifications of the systems.Possess a positive and service oriented attitude.Position Status:Full TimeHours:General HoursMonday-FridayFirst Shift (7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.)Will require on-call for weekend work.Training days/hours may be different initially (M-F) for trainingHours may be adjustedWill require on-call for weekend work when necessary.Training hours may be different.Salary/Wage:$27.99-$30.00/hour plus shift diffHourly/Salary:HourlyBenefits:Benefit-Eligible FT Support Staff PositionMoraine Valley Offers a Generous Benefits Plan Which Includes Paid Time Off, Tuition Discounts For Benefit Eligible Employees And Dependents, Medical, Dental, Vision, And Retirement Benefits In a Collaborative And Friendly Environment.
