Position Overview
The SH&E Manager is a key member of the safety leadership team responsible for driving safety performance, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across assigned refinery, DOT, and rail operations.
This role is an opportunity to directly influence safety culture, operational performance, and team member development. The SH&E Manager serves as a trusted partner to operations and customers while leading continuous improvement in a high-impact industrial environment.
What you'll be doing:
Partner with operations and customers to strengthen safety culture and improve performance outcomes
Lead regional SH&E initiatives, priorities, and continuous improvement efforts
Coach and develop frontline leaders in safety ownership and accountability
Maintain a strong field presence to observe work practices, reinforce expectations, and identify improvement opportunities
Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations
Conduct field audits, observations, and engagement activities to reinforce safe work practices and identify risks
Support incident response, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions across assigned operations
Analyze leading and lagging indicators to identify trends and reduce operational risk
Support timely completion of required training and workforce development initiatives
Build and maintain strong customer relationships; represent Savage during customer meetings, audits, and safety engagements
Drive consistency in SH&E systems, procedures, and performance across sites

Proactive identification and reduction of risk through data analysis and field engagement
Consistent execution of SH&E standards across multiple operations
Experience in refinery, rail, transportation, manufacturing, or other industrial operations preferred
Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, CSHO, CIH, or equivalent are preferred
Knowledge of OSHA, FRA, DOT, EPA, and customer-specific safety requirements
Strong communication and relationship-building skills with frontline teams, customers, and leadership
Experience with safety management systems, incident tracking platforms, and Microsoft Office applications
Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Combination of office and field work in varying weather conditions
Required use of PPE and ability to always model safe behaviors
Exposure to industrial hazards including heavy equipment, noise, fumes, and elevated work areas
Ability to walk extended distances on uneven surfaces
Ability to lift to 25 pounds
