Building Engineer – Medical Facility
Full-Time | Hands-On Role | Immediate Need

We’re hiring a Building Engineer to take charge of the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a 70,000 sq. ft. medical facility in Chico, CA. This is a self-sufficient, hands-on role ideal for someone who is technically skilled, customer-focused, and eager to make an impact in a critical environment.
What You’ll Do
Lead with Confidence: Act as the primary on-site contact for property managers and tenants—resolving issues quickly, professionally, and independently.
Own the Systems: Maintain and repair all major building systems, including:
HVAC (including large commercial packaged rooftop units)
Plumbing, electrical, and lighting systems
Life safety systems
Building Automation Systems (BAS)
Interpret & Execute: Read and understand original and current construction drawings to effectively maintain and troubleshoot complex systems.
Optimize Operations: Utilize your BAS knowledge to reduce utility costs through efficient system operation and automation strategies.
Manage Vendors: Coordinate third-party contractors, develop scopes of work, obtain bids, and oversee work to ensure quality and compliance.
Document & Report: Use a digital work order system to track preventive maintenance, tenant requests, and emergency repairs.
What You Bring
Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of commercial building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
Hands-On Experience: 5–7 years in commercial building maintenance, preferably in healthcare or institutional facilities.
Mechanical Systems Proficiency:
Experience with large commercial packaged rooftop units
Preferred experience with water-cooled condensing systems
Automation Experience:
Proficiency in Building Automation Systems (BAS)
Preferred experience using automation to improve energy efficiency and lower utility costs
Plan Interpretation: Ability to work from detailed construction drawings and schematics
Customer Service Focus: Strong communication and professionalism when interacting with tenants and management
Problem Solver: Proactive, self-driven, and capable of making decisions independently
Job Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent (technical certifications preferred)
Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
Must be able to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces
Able to pass a pre-employment drug and background screening
Schedule & Pay
Full-time | 40 hours/week (Monday–Friday preferred)
