Working in small, highly collaborative engineering teams, you'll develop deterministic, real-time flight software that directly powers spacecraft performing active missions. Engineers are given genuine ownership from architecture through deployment, working alongside world-class Avionics, GNC and Propulsion engineers to rapidly turn ideas into flight-ready systems.The Flight Software Engineer will design, develop and integrate embedded flight software, owning critical software services across the complete spacecraft software lifecycle.As the Flight Software Engineer your responsibilities will include:Designing and developing real-time embedded C++ flight software for spacecraft flight computersImplementing software for Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC), command & telemetry, propulsion control, mission sequencing, autonomy and fault managementDeveloping deterministic software capable of meeting hard real-time performance requirements in demanding space environmentsSupporting software verification, integration, environmental testing, launch preparation and live mission operationsCollaborating closely with Avionics, GNC, Propulsion and RF Engineering teams to deliver reliable, flight-ready softwareParticipating in code reviews while maintaining high standards for software quality, reliability and maintainabilityAs the Flight Software Engineer you will bring:Strong C++ development experience within embedded or real-time systemsExperience developing software for embedded Linux and/or RTOS environmentsA solid understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, networking and software engineering fundamentalsExperience developing software for safety-critical or mission-critical systems such as spacecraft, launch vehicles, autonomous vehicles, robotics, UAVs or similar complex platformsExperience with software verification, testing, version control and modern software development practicesSpacecraft flight software, NASA cFS or mission operations experience would be highly advantageousThe Flight Software Engineer will become a key contributor to the software that directly flies Impulse Space's spacecraft, taking ownership of mission-critical functionality from initial concept through successful on-orbit operations.
