Job Title: Nursery/Store ManagerReports to: Executive DirectorLocation: Oxnard, CA (On-site with Hybrid Admin Duties)Job SummaryThe Nursery and Restoration Project Manager plays a vital role in advancing MiniNature Reserve’s mission to restore native habitats and promote ecological sustainability through hands-on site development, store development, customer service, native plant cultivation, and retail. This part-time position oversees nursery operations and small team supervision. The role is ideal for someone with a background in ecological restoration, horticulture, and retail who thrives in both field and administrative settings. We are looking for someone who cares about nature and is able to bring an entrepreneurial business mindset to a mission-based non-profit.Key ResponsibilitiesNursery and Plant Production ManagementHire and supervise nursery staff in the propagation and cultivation of native plants for MiniNature Reserve projects, sales, and contractsFile sales taxes every month and keep business and nursery licenses up to dateOrder necessary nursery supplies and manage inventoryIdentify seed collection sites and plan seasonal propagation cyclesEnsure safe and efficient practices for all field operations and volunteer activitiesLead nursery staff in growing out native plants for projects, sales, and contractsOrder any supplies needed for the nurseryDevelop standard operating procedures that maximize efficiencyMay need to assist with marketing, networking and seeking out contracts for this first yearRequired Qualifications2+ years experience in native plant nursery operations, ecological restoration, or related horticultural workKnowledge of native plants of Southern California and sustainable landscaping practicesAbility to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical labor outdoors in varied weather conditionsStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to lead small teams and communicate effectively with staff and volunteersExperience in retail managementPreferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree or certification in environmental science, horticulture, landscape design, or related fieldExperience working with community-based restoration projectsSpanish language proficiency is a plusWorking ConditionsStart-upPart-time: approximately 64 hours/month (16 hours/week)Primarily on-site with occasional remote administrative workOutdoor fieldwork required in varying weather conditionsCompensation and ClassificationClassification: Part-time, non-exempt employee (W-2)Compensation: $24/hour basepay, 16 hours a week, Monday 6 hours, Wednesday (6 hours), Saturday (6 hours), + payment progression planBenefits: Paid sick leave in accordance with California law; Healthcare, Mileage reimbursement $0.75/mile, PTO, no additional benefits provided at this timeThe Payment Progression Plan is negotiated in good faith and involves increase in hourly rate, hours available, and benefits across a 2 year period.
