Monitor curriculum implementation and instruction to ensure excellence in teaching that supports student learning. Provide teachers with the support necessary including ongoing professional development that contributes to increased student achievement. Ensure that students receive a rigorous academic program that maximizes their intellectual, social-emotional, and physical development including the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills.Reports to the building principalPrimary Tasks:Share a commitment to the success of the mission and vision of the School District of the City of Harper Woods.Provide leadership and fully participate in a school culture that focuses on student and adult learning.Set high expectations and standards for achievement of instructional staff, students, and personal performance.Provide leadership in implementing the Harper Woods School District curriculum to maximize student achievement.Serve as a facilitator for vertical and horizontal articulation for all core academic and elective subjects.Model effective instructional practices, including delivery of instruction using research based teaching strategies.Exhibit leadership and support for a school philosophy that values continuous learning for adults tied to student learning and school improvement goals.Use multiple sources of data collection to analyze barriers to student achievement and to access, identify and apply to instructional improvement.Work collaboratively with partner providers to provide curriculum resources and instructional support and professional development for staff.Provide classroom coaching to improve instructional capacity leading to increased student achievement.All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent / designee.Characteristic Duties and Performance Standards:Monitor curriculum implementation and effective instruction, providing feedback, coaching, and training in targeted area of need.Lead department, grade level, and/or content area meetings on topics relating to curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and provide leadership in curriculum and instruction during meetings of professional learning communities.Monitor the use of student achievement data from multiple sources including standardized tests, curriculum based assessments, classroom assessments, Compass / Edgenuity, and other data to inform instruction.Provide support for intervention, MTSS, after school and other programs and monitor program effectiveness based on data.Act as a resource specialist for parent education programs relating to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.Guide teachers in adapting materials and methods across the curriculum to the learning styles and instructional levels of individual students, using multiple differentiation strategies including but not limited to instructional grouping.Guide teachers' learning process towards achievement of curriculum and instruction goals to maximize student achievement.Organize resources effectively to support learning activities in the classroom, the school, and the community.Provide leadership and expertise as a member of the School Improvement Team.Serve as a resource for the implementation of district and school based assessments including scheduling, logistics, testing requirements, and managing assessment programs.Provide leadership to the reporting of test results to students, staff, parents / guardians and community members.Manage surveys of students, staff, parents / guardians, and community members regarding the effectiveness of school and district programs and services.Required Education / Skills: Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or comparable educational attainment; valid Michigan teaching certificate, meeting federal guidelines for highly qualified teacher. Demonstrated experience as a leader in Curriculum and Instruction or related field.Needs to demonstrate the ability to:Communicate through superior written and oral communication skills.Demonstrate superior facilitation and expert presentation skills.Exhibit a high caliber of expertise in core subject areas.Work on multiple projects and respond to requests and deadlines in an accurate, timely manner.Analyze achievement data, communicate results, and develop plans for improvement based on data.Provide oversight to approved school district curriculum, in alignment with state standards.Demonstrate excellent interpersonal relationships with all school and community stakeholders.
