This rolewill curate metadata, develop end-to-end data lineage diagrams, build andmaintain business glossaries, author data quality rules, and perform other datagovernance functions required by the Virginia Office of Data Governance andAnalytics.Keyresponsibilities for the role include (but are not limited to):•Maintaining and administering the Commonwealth’sBusiness Glossary•Supporting the identification, implementationand consumption of metadata and data modelling tooling•Developing and maintaining end-to-end datalineage diagrams that trace data from source systems through transformation andconsumption•Supporting and contributing to the creation andmaintenance of data models•Authoring data quality rules, thresholds, andvalidation checks against critical data elements•BackgroundWe are afast-growing agency focused on providing expert insight into data analytics andrisk, developing team members, and effective oversight of data analytics, datasecurity and technology risk. Within ODGA, you will be conducting meaningfulwork and making a difference in the lives of Virginians by promoting a datasharing culture and optimizing data protection and governance capabilities.Technical Job Responsibilities•Business Glossaries/Data CatalogoResponsible for the maintenance of a datacatalog and business metadata associated with strategic data assetsoSupport the build out of data taxonomy, datadictionary and business glossaries of data assetsoSupport on-boarding of domain data sources tothe data catalog·MetadataoWork with business analysts and solutiondesigners to identify critical data elements and capture the metadata relatingto themoOversee the maintenance of metadata artifacts,reporting and escalating where appropriate, resolving issues, gaps andinconsistenciesoDevelop and maintain end-to-end data lineagediagrams tracing data from source systems through all transformations toconsuming applications and reports; ensure diagrams are accurate, current, andinterpretable by both technical and business stakeholdersoComplete metadata and data quality audits, acton findings as necessary, and report audit progressoRespond to questions from various teams,troubleshoot issues, and update metadata as needed- Documentand maintain classification and sensitivity standards.·Data Quality RulesoDefine, document, and implement data qualityrules, thresholds, and validation checks for critical data elements acrossagency data assets·Othero Use Power Platform to automate agency work.o Utilize task tracking tools such as JIRA tokeep stakeholders updated on progresso Perform self-management tasks such as:monitoring progress, providing summaries of progress, assisting in riskidentification, and monitoring mitigation responseso Perform assigned duties to assist the Office of the Chief DataOfficer or state government generally in the event of an emergency declarationby the Governor. May be required to work during hours not regularly scheduledfor work, as directed by the supervisor.Required Experience·3-5 years of dedicated data governanceexperience with demonstrated, hands-on proficiency in all four of the followingareas: (1) metadata curation and management, (2) developing end-to-end datalineage diagrams, (3) building and maintaining business glossaries, and (4)authoring data quality rules and validation checks; experience with a metadatamanagement or data catalog platform (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Informatica,Alation, Collibra) required·Experiencewith SQL and an understanding of data and systems' infrastructures·Excellentattention to detail.·Strongwork ethic and positive attitude to get things done·Strongcommunication and organizational skills·Demonstrated knowledge of data governanceframeworks, policies, and best practices (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK); familiarity withdata governance roles and responsibilities within a government or enterprisecontext·The selected candidate must continually meetrequirements of the Conflict-of-Interest Act, pass a fingerprint backgroundcheck, and also sign and adhere to the Confidentiality Statement at the end ofthis document.Desired Experience·Azure and/or Data certifications; experience ina big-data environment or data security·Experience with data quality profiling tools orplatforms (e.g., Collibra DQ, Informatica Data Quality, Alation); familiaritywith data quality dimensions (completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness)·Previous experience with Power Platforms ispreferredRequired/Desired Skills Skill Required/Desired Amount of Experience Data Governance experience including metadata curation, data lineage, business glossaries, and data quality rules Required 5.0 Years Ability to coach and mentor agency data stewards on data governance best practices Required 5.0 Years Strong communication and organizational skills Required 5.0 Years Experience with data governance tools such as Purview, Informatica, Alation, Collibra Highly desired 2.0 Years Knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices Highly desired 2.0 Years
