This role provides technical expertise, leads continuous improvement initiatives, and partners with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence within the facility.Key Responsibilities – Organizational EffectivenessProvide technical oversight of operations, ensuring optimal efficiency and product qualityProvide technical training to workforce on process improvements and process changesCollaborate with cross-functional teams (maintenance, production, and quality control)Lead process optimization efforts, including raw material and energy inputsParticipate in DMS and utilize data analytics to monitor KPIsRead and interpret P&IDsSupport CAPEX projects including upgrades and new technology implementationInteract with vendors to improve productivity and qualityEnsure compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standardsAct as a technical coach providing training and mentorshipKey Responsibilities – Process OptimizationIdentify and support cost reduction projectsDevelop and run chemical, process, and quality trialsDevelop training materials and procedures for operatorsApply process engineering methods across paper machine operationsEvaluate process control loopsParticipate in shutdown planning and executionPerform engineering calculationsTranslate technical information clearly for operatorsKey Responsibilities – QualityApply HPI processes to identify root causes of off-quality eventsTrack solutions in Enablon systemDevelop techniques to improve qualitySupport customer complaint resolutionKey Responsibilities – Continuous ImprovementUse Lean tools (Six Sigma, DMAIC, FMEA)Perform RCFA and RCPEDevelop process control strategiesExplore machine learning opportunitiesKey Responsibilities – SafetyLead by example as a safety advocateDrive root cause identification and corrective actionsEnsure documentation and follow-upRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Paper Science, or related fieldMinimum four years of manufacturing/process experienceStrong communication, analytical, and computer skillsAbility to work independently and in teamsPreferred QualificationsAdvanced troubleshooting and critical thinking skillsExperience implementing process improvementsStrong understanding of safe work practicesExperience with SAP, PI, Excel, and PARCViewCritical CompetenciesStrong communication at all levelsAbility to manage multiple prioritiesYou will be required to successfully complete a selection process that could include interviews, an employment background check, a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, reference verifications, aptitude tests (for some positions), and a fitness-for-duty test (for some positions).Domtar is an equal-opportunity employer.
