These efforts are monitored and assessed regularly to ensure accountability to all stakeholders.Position Summary:The School Safety Officer is responsible for providing access control and related safety functions across Lawrence Public Schools. The officer ensures a safe learning and working environment by monitoring entry to school buildings, identifying visitors, and responding appropriately to incidents.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Question and identify all persons attempting to enter the school building.Determine whether visitors have a lawful purpose on school property.Notify proper authorities of any incidents occurring while on duty.Prepare written reports on any incidents encountered during duty hours.Provide security for assigned property and its occupantUphold all Lawrence Public Schools codes of conduct.Perform other job-related assignments as directed by the Director of School SafetyKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in high-stress or emergency situations.Knowledge of school safety procedures and protocols.Ability to observe, document, and report incidents accurately.Commitment to fostering a safe, welcoming school environment.Proficiency in English; bilingual skills preferred.Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, staff, students, and local authoritiesHigh level of integrity and professionalism.Qualifications & Requirements:High school diploma required.U.S. citizen.Successful completion of oral interview and background checkProficiency in English; bilingual ability preferred.Equal Opportunity EmployerLawrence Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive environment for employees and applicants.
