Oyster Shucker - The Quinte + Lowland - Charleston, South Carolina Job Description Oyster Shucker The Quinte Oyster Bar is looking for skilled and passionate hospitality professionals to join their team! Just off King St. in downtown Charleston, helmed by Executive Chef, Jason StanhopeThe Quinte, is a lively oyster bar, serving chilled seafood and creative cocktails in a charming space. As an oyster shucker you will be responsible for the skilled and efficient handling of oysters and other chilled seafood for our guests. This role requires precision, speed, and attention to detail to ensure the quality and safety of the oysters being served to customers. This is a guest facing position, you will be an integral part of daily service, personality and knowledge of product is an essential part of this role! Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Shucking OystersUse oyster knives or specialized shucking tools to carefully open oysters without damaging the meat inside. Quality Control: Inspect each oyster to ensure it is fresh, properly cleaned, and free from any contaminants or irregularities. Speed and EfficiencyWork quickly and efficiently to meet customer demand while maintaining high-quality standards. Safety PracticesAdhere to proper safety protocols to prevent injuries while handling sharp knives and shellfish. Presentation: Arrange shucked oysters and other seafood offerings on serving plates or platters in an aesthetically pleasing manner, ready for immediate consumption. Cleanliness and SanitationMaintain a clean and organized work area, including regularly sanitizing tools and surfaces to prevent cross-contamination. Customer ServiceInteract with customers in a friendly and professional manner, answering questions about the oysters and providing recommendations based on their preferences. Inventory ManagementMonitor inventory levels and communicate with management to ensure an adequate supply of offerings is available. Compliance: Follow all food safety regulations and guidelines to ensure the safe handling and serving of oysters. CollaborationWork closely with kitchen staff and servers to coordinate orders and ensure exceptional service Qualifications: Experience: Previous experience as an oyster shucker or in a similar role involving seafood preparation is required Knife SkillsProficient in using oyster knives or shucking tools with precision and safety. Attention to Detail: Ability to inspect all offerings for freshness and quality, identifying any defects or irregularities. Team PlayerWillingness to collaborate with colleagues in a fast-paced restaurant environment. Guest Relations: Dedication to providing exceptional service and ensuring customer satisfaction. Food Safety KnowledgeFamiliarity with food safety regulations and best practices for handling shellfish. Flexibility: Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required in a dynamic restaurant setting.
