Full-Time Rheumatologist

OverviewThe Physician provides comprehensive medical services and ensures the safety and quality of clinical care within the physician practice and Methodist LeBonheur Hospitals. The role involves direct patient care, care coordination, and program management in collaboration with nursing, support staff, and other health care providers.ResponsibilitiesProvides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, and assessments.Diagnoses and treats patients using best practices, prescribing pharmaceuticals and other medications as appropriate.Refers patients to specialists and relevant patient care components when indicated.Evaluates patients for the need and level of prescription medicines, considering alternative techniques for patient care.Manages the daily operations of a specific medical program, patient care unit, or research function.Directs and coordinates patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and continuous quality improvement objectives, maintaining safety, environmental, and infection control standards.Participates in health promotion, education, and prevention programs.Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patients and families.Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests, and analyzes records, reports, and examination information to establish diagnoses.Maintains accurate and timely documentation within three days of each visit or discharge.Coordinates work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other health care providers.Provides call coverage for the practice and hospitals.Maintains acceptable productivity levels while focusing on high patient and family satisfaction and retention.Develops strong partnerships with fellow physicians and support staff.Education / Formal Training RequirementsMD/DO MedicineWork Experience RequirementsNo prior work experienceLicenses and CertificationsRequired: Medical Doctor - Tennessee (Tennessee State Board of Medical Examiners)Preferred: AOA Board Certified Physician-Specialty (American Osteopathic Association)Preferred: Medical Doctor - Mississippi (Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure)Preferred: Medical Doctor - Arkansas (Arkansas State Medical Board)Preferred: Osteopathic Physician Tennessee (Tennessee Board of Osteopathic Examination)Preferred: National Board Certified Physician (The National Board of Physicians and Surgeons)Preferred: Board Certified Physician - American Board of Medical SpecialtiesPreferred: Board Certified DO - NBOME (National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners)Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of legal and ethical standards for medical care delivery.Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in the area of expertise.Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students.Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in the area of expertise.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.Ability to observe, assess, and document symptoms, reactions, and progress.Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids; ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients correctly.SupervisionThis position is supervised by an administrator, nurse practitioner, and support staff.Physical DemandsMust be physically and mentally able to perform essential functions, often requiring climbing, pushing, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repeated motion. Duties may include exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently. Requires good balance and coordination, plus strong visual acuity.
