Montessori Elementary TeacherBrief Description:We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Elementary Teacher to join our Montessori program. The Elementary Teacher works closely with other Elementary educators to provide a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for students ranging from grades 1 - 6. This role includes implementing Montessori curriculum, promoting children's social and emotional development, and supporting each student's individual learning needs. The ideal candidate has a genuine love for working with children and a commitment to Montessori philosophy.Montessori School of Greater Lafayette (MSGL) is a private, independent, secular, 501(c)(3) nonprofit school accredited by the American Montessori Society. Located in West Lafayette, Indiana, MSGL has served the community for over 50 years and offers school-year and summer camp programs for children from infancy through sixth grade. MSGL's facilities provide an immersive indoor and outdoor learning environment. Our experienced and dedicated staff support children in developing self-awareness and an understanding of the world around them through balanced independence and structure within mixed-age classroom communities.This is an immediate opening, with flexibility for the right candidate, and is intended to continue into future school years. For the remainder of the current school year, the teacher will support a small Upper Elementary classroom of 11 4th and 5th grade students, working alongside existing elementary staff. Elementary classroom structures are responsive to enrollment and program needs. Depending on the academic year, this classroom can include students in grades 1 - 6, with student-to-teacher ratios ranging from 1:5 to 1:12.Responsibilities:Provide a high standard of care and instruction to elementary studentsPrepare lessons in accordance with American Montessori Society (AMS) standards and aligned with the mission and philosophy of Montessori School of Greater LafayettePrepare, update, and share weekly lesson plans with teaching partner(s)Develop, review, and update curriculum and curriculum maps in collaboration with the Elementary Team and Executive DirectorPrepare an annual statement of professional goals and objectives for evaluation and growthSupport a diverse range of learners, including neurodivergent students, through individualized instruction and observation-based planningSupervise students during outdoor learning, transitions, and school outingsCommunicate regularly with parents for consultation and collaboration, including regular classroom newslettersBe in attendance at school in accordance with the terms set forth in the letter of agreement, current elementary school hours 8am-3:15pm on an August-May school calendarMaintain a prepared classroom environment and other instructional spacesMaintain accurate student records, including attendance and progress in Transparent ClassroomPrepare for and participate in bi-annual parent-teacher conferencesParticipate in regularly scheduled day trips and experiential learning opportunitiesAttend and participate in sparse evening events such as Open House, Parent Education, and corporation events as scheduledAttend and participate in program-level, faculty, and all-staff meetingsEstablish and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school personnelComply with MSGL policies and procedures as outlined in the Faculty & Staff HandbookModel the values of the MSGL Mission Statement, Diversity Statement, and Community NormsPerform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Executive DirectorQualifications:Required: Bachelor's degree in Education or a related fieldRequired: American Montessori Society (AMS) credential in Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, or Dual OR willingness to immediately enroll in an AMS-approved training program.Required: Successfully complete a background check.Required: One professional reference.Preferred: At least 3 years of classroom teaching experience, ages 5-11.Benefits:$45,000 - 48,000 per academic year (August-May), supporting work-life balance aligned with the academic calendar, based on experience, education, and credentials.MSGL will sponsor Montessori credential expenses50% tuition discount for children of MSGL employeesPaid time offPaid professional developmentAccredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS), not the state, providing teachers with greater professional autonomy, freedom from standardized testing requirements, and the ability to focus on individualized instruction, observation-based assessment, and meaningful learning rather than homework grading and test preparation.An intentional, diverse, and inclusive school community
