The College is proud of the fact that over 50 nations are represented within the student body.* Based on the annual unduplicated credit and non-credit headcount for FY 2023.Description/Job SummaryThis position is responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of campus law enforcement and public safety operations. The role ensures the protection of people and property, manages investigations, develops security policies, supervises personnel, coordinates training, and fosters a safe and secure college environment in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.Responsibilities/DutiesPerforms and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, Board policies, and professional standards.Plans, organizes, and directs the law enforcement program including prevention and control, and investigation of crimes against persons and properties within the vicinity of schools and buildings.Directs, supervises and aids in the investigation of complaints and violations of College/State/City laws reports the findings to the VP of Workforce Development.Develops and recommends departmental security policies and procedures. Coordinates ongoing training programs and activities for staff.Directs personnel activities within the department including hiring, work schedules, promotions, and terminations. Performs personnel evaluations, conducts counseling sessions, and recommends disciplinary action as required.Maintains logs and files pertinent to campus security and law enforcement activities.Coordinates law enforcement initiatives such as workshops, in-service training and all requirements mandated by the MD Police Training Commission.Prepares and conducts professional development to the college community related to security and law enforcement issues. Develops and maintains a cohesive college/community partnership.Provides data for and assists in the preparation of legislation and testifies at hearings on application of legislation.Notifies appropriate administrative staff of emergencies (police and/or fire activities, equipment failure), events drawing news media attention, and other significant incidents as required.Completes all required reporting such as Cleary timely and accurately.Evaluates all supervisory Public Safety personnel.Required QualificationsEducation:Bachelor's degree in law enforcement or related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution. Experience:Seven (7) years of administrative and/or supervisory experience in law enforcement, which must include the following:Experience with current hiring practices for sworn police officers and the MD Commission OfficeMembership in a national law enforcement organization.Certified police academy graduate. Additional Requirements:Ability to work rotating shift hours including nights, holidays, and weekends. Application Requirements:Must provide (7) Professional references (additional documentation)Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in law enforcement or related field.Three to Five years of experience as Chief/Division Commander in a state, local, or federal law enforcement department/agency.Five (5) years of experience in public safety in a collegiate environment.Ten (10) years of administrative and/or supervisory experience in law enforcement or related field. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:Ability to communicate with others, assimilate and understand information and make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.Demonstrate leadership ability.Ability to prepare and adjust work schedules to meet staffing requirements.Ability to work under pressure in response to emergency situationsAbility to maintain good working relationships in servicing all levels of City government and user agencies.
