Role: Senior Structural Steel Engineering SupervisorEmployment Type: Full-TimeCompensation: $170,000 - $190,000 + Annual Revenue BonusLocation: Salem, OR Onsite (Minimum 4 days per week)Position OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Structural Steel Engineering Supervisor to provide technical leadership and operational oversight for our Structural Engineering team supporting utility and telecommunications pole manufacturing.This is a key succession hire due to the retirement of a senior engineer. The role is designed as a true "player-coach" position - combining hands-on engineering execution with team leadership, training, and operational oversight.The selected candidate will serve as the most senior technical authority within a five-person engineering team (currently ranging from 2 to 10 years of experience) and will be responsible for elevating technical standards, mentoring staff, and driving consistent, high-quality engineering delivery.This is a fast-track hiring initiative; however, the organization remains committed to securing the right long-term leader.Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering Leadership & OversightProvide direct supervision and technical leadership to onsite, remote, and offshore structural engineers.Assign and prioritize workloads to ensure adherence to production schedules and client commitments.Serve as the senior technical authority and escalation point for complex structural steel and utility pole design challenges.Review and approve engineering deliverables for accuracy, constructability, compliance, and adherence to internal standards.Technical & Design Execution (Working Supervisor)Actively participate in structural analysis and design of utility and telecom pole structures.Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes and standards, including ASCE, AISC, IBC, NESC, and related utility requirements.Support engineering calculations, connection design, and structural detailing as needed.Collaborate closely with manufacturing and production teams to ensure practical, fabrication-ready designs.Team Development & Workforce PlanningLead onboarding, training, and professional development initiatives for junior and mid-level engineers.Develop structured training programs to elevate technical capabilities across the team.Conduct performance evaluations, provide mentorship, and support career growth.Participate in hiring and succession planning to strengthen the engineering organization.Cross-Functional CollaborationPartner with Sales, Estimating, Project Management, and Operations to support project execution.Contribute to strategic planning as a member of the management team.Support customer interactions related to engineering standards, technical clarifications, and design reviews.Process Improvement & Quality ControlDevelop and maintain engineering standards, procedures, and best practices.Establish performance metrics to improve efficiency, quality, and consistency.Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and manufacturing coordination.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.Minimum 10 years of experience in structural engineering, with strong exposure to utility or telecom structures.Minimum 3 years of engineering leadership or supervisory experience.Deep knowledge of structural steel design and applicable codes (ASCE, AISC, IBC, NESC).Demonstrated ability to lead distributed engineering teams.Strong communication and organizational skills.PreferredProfessional Engineer (PE) license.Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.Experience within utility pole or telecom infrastructure manufacturing environments.Ideal Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate is a senior structural engineering leader who thrives in a manufacturing environment and is comfortable balancing technical execution with team leadership.
