ControllerDepartment: Finance/HRFLSA Classification: ExemptEmployee Type: FT/12-moReports to: Director of Finance/HR_______________________________________________________________________________Position Overview: Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston seeks a mission-driven, detail-oriented and strategic Senior Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations of the school and its related entities.This role serves as the primary steward of financial integrity, overseeing accounting systems, reporting, compliance, and internal controls across the school, Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP), and Foundation. The Senior Controller is a key partner to the President and Director of Finance and HR, ensuring that financial operations support the long-term sustainability and mission of forming men and women for others._______________________________________________________________________________About Cristo Rey Jesuit: Cristo Rey Jesuit is a Catholic, Jesuit college preparatory school in Houston serving students from families with limited economic resources. Through a rigorous academic program and a unique Corporate Work Study Program, students gain real-world experience while earning a large portion of their tuition.______________________________________________________________________________Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership and ReportingLead all accounting operations, including general ledger, journal entries, and financial reportingOversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processesPrepare accurate and timely financial statements for leadership and Board of TrusteesMaintain financial reporting across multiple entities (school, CWSP, foundation)Audit, Compliance & ControlsCoordinate and lead the annual audit, Form 990, and other required filingsEnsure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and applicable state/federal requirementsMaintain strong internal controls and continuously improve financial processesOversee preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentationCash Flow & Financial SystemsMonitor and manage cash flow across all accountsOversee bank reconciliations and financial system integrityEnsure proper accounting for restricted funds, grants, and donor contributionsSupport financial modeling and projections as neededRevenue & Operations Oversight Oversee accounting for: Tuition and family contributionsCorporate Work Study Program revenue and billingDonations, grants, and foundation activityMonitor accounts receivable and coordinate collections efforts when neededAccounts Payable & Payroll OversightSupervise accounts payable processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and proper approvalsReview payroll in coordination with HR, including reconciliation of payroll and benefits accountsLeadership & CollaborationSupervise accounting support personnelPartner with Director of Finance & HR on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiativesCollaborate with school leadership, CWSP team, and advancement team on financial mattersSupport Board Finance Committee and participate in reporting and presentations_____________________________________________________________________________QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field5–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experienceStrong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principlesExperience managing financial reporting, audits, and internal controlsHigh level of attention to detail and organizational skillsPreferredCPA or CPA candidate strongly preferredExperience in nonprofit, education, or multi-entity organizationsFamiliarity with fund accounting and restricted giftsExperience with QuickBooks, DonorPerfect, or similar systemKey CompetenciesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and deadlinesHigh integrity and commitment to confidentialityExcellent communication and collaboration skillsAlignment with the mission and values of Cristo Rey JesuitCompensation & BenefitsSalary range: $90,000 – $110,000, commensurate with experienceComprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid time offMission AlignmentCandidates should demonstrate a commitment to the mission of Cristo Rey Jesuit and a desire to contribute to a Catholic, student-centered community focused on forming men and women for others, for the greater glory of God.How to ApplyPlease submit a resume and cover letter outlining your interest in the role and alignment with the mission of Cristo Rey Jesuit.
