Bus Driver/Utility Person
TELAMON|TRC COMMITMENT TO TRAUMAINFORMED CARE:Telamon|TRC has taken steps to shift ourorganization into a Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) model. This changes ourperceptions about the individuals that we work with, employees and customers,including families and children. A trauma-informed system of care providesservices that empower employees and customers, including families and children,to feel safe, welcomed and engaged at all levels of organizational interaction.Exchanges that could be potentially retraumatizing, or trigger traumaticreactions require thoughtfulness and non-judgement. Ongoing, as anorganization, we collaborate to educate employees about the effects ofviolence, victimization and trauma on individuals. This model supports aculture of safety for employees and customers, including families and children.POSITION SUMMARY:Ensuresthe health, safety and welfare of the children, staff, and volunteers duringbus transportation to and from the center and on field trips. Supports theextension of classroom learning environments on the bus. Ensures qualitybuilding maintenance services to the children, families, staff, and communitymembers who utilize the school facilities.DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Communicates in a positive mannerwith staff, parents, and children.2. Drives a bus and possibly othervehicles.3. Ensures children are safelytransported on the bus by checking seat belts, ensuring car seats are appropriatelyinstalled and monitor that children stay seated.4. Checks the bus to make sure allchildren have exited following each route.5. Ensures that children arereleased only to a parent or designated person, in accordance with release policy.6. Assist the Bus Monitors inmaintaining a positive social environment that supports the extension of classroomlearning environments on the bus.7. The person in this position musthave the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.8. Protects the safety of childrenby implementing active supervision techniques to ensure no child is left aloneor unsupervised at any time.9. Follows all state, federal andcorporate regulations and rules including, but not limited to, limiting the numberof riders to the legal capacity of the vehicle, ensuring an appropriatestaff/child ratio on the vehicle, and ensuring children are in car seats.10. Assists in establishing andmaintaining bus routes, deviating only in emergency situations.11. Maintains accurate vehicleattendance records and other required paperwork.12. Ensures emergency supplies,safety and other equipment are maintained and properly stored and mounted.13. Ensures the bus is operatingcorrectly including, but not limited to, checking the vehicle communication system,conducting pre-and post-trip inspections and following vehicle maintenanceschedules.14. Bus Drivers escort childrento/from their classroom and convey any messages between parents and the teacher,as well as any incidents on the bus.15. Bus Drivers need to collaboratewith the Bus Monitor and classroom staff to teach children safe riding practicesand safety procedures on and off the bus. Conducts regular bus evacuationdrills.16. Cleans the interior and exteriorof vehicles.17. Maintains indoor and outdoorfacilities, grounds, landscapes, and turf in a manner that provides a safe and comfortableenvironment which is conducive to a positive learning experience.18. Performs general maintenancetasks as needed such as floor care, painting, and cleaning equipment.19. Performs outside work as neededsuch as lawn maintenance, shoveling snow, and playground maintenance.20. Performs minor construction andrepairs.21. Picks-up and unloads supplies.22. Participates in staff meetings,committees, and training sessions.23. Works in cooperation withsupervisor to develop and document progress on professional development plan.Actively engages in professional development activities to increasequalifications in accordance with Corporation's Core Values.24. Perform all other duties asassigned by the supervisor.SAFETY DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:Ensuringa secure workplace is a collective effort. All employees are responsible foradhering to established safe work practices and completing all mandatory safetytraining by the assigned due date.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Thisposition has no direct supervisory duties but is expected to train or explainwork procedures to others.ROLEQUALIFICATIONS:Education and ExperienceRequirements:• Noformal education is required but must be able to follow standard practices andinstructions, keep routine records and communicate with staff, parents, andchildren.• Highschool diploma or G.E.D. is recommended.• ValidCDL license is required, including ability to pass CDL physical.• Musthave seven years of driving experience.• Priorexperience driving a bus is preferred.• Cleandriving record.• Mustbe able to get certification for CPR and First Aid after hire and recertify asrequired.Skills and Abilities:• BusDrivers should have knowledge about federal, state, and local transportationrequirements.• Knowledgeof the geographic locale and, whenever possible, the language spoken by thefamilies served.• Abilityto problem solve and provide leadership whenever an emergency occurs.• ReactionTime -The ability to quickly respond to a signal when it appears.• ResponseOrientation -The ability to choose quickly between two or more movements inresponse to two or more different signals. Afingerprint background check may suffice for a regular background check.Additional background checks may be required such as the Child Abuse andNeglect State Registry, and the Sex Offender Registry.Positions that Require Driving:• Telamon|TRCemployees that are required to drive a personal vehicle for work-related dutiesare to meet the auto insurance liability requirement. The minimum limitsrequired are $100,000 each person bodily injury, $300,000 each accident bodilyinjury and $50,000 property damage. Theinsurance liability requirement covers use of an employee's personalvehicle.• Telamon|TRCemployees that drive a company-owned/rental vehicle must maintain asatisfactory annual motor vehicle record check.
