Job Title: Process Engineer (Mechanical – Facilities Design)Location: Wilton, CT (Onsite)Employment Type: Contract (W-2)Duration: 12+ MonthsInterview Mode: VirtualJob Summary:We are seeking an experienced Process Engineer (Mechanical – Facilities Design) to support the design, engineering, and delivery of mechanical infrastructure for advanced manufacturing facilities. The selected candidate will serve as the mechanical engineering lead on multidisciplinary design teams responsible for developing construction-ready designs for critical facility systems, including HVAC, hydronic systems, process piping, exhaust systems, and plumbing. This role requires strong technical expertise, collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders, and experience supporting projects from concept through construction in complex manufacturing environments.Responsibilities:Develop engineering scope documents, client specifications, standards, and design requirements for mechanical facility infrastructure projects.Produce construction-ready engineering documentation for installation and modification of complex manufacturing facility systems.Lead mechanical engineering activities including code interpretation, engineering assessments, HAZOP participation, scope development, and design reviews.Design and support mechanical systems including HVAC, hydronic systems, process piping, exhaust systems, plumbing, and related utility infrastructure.Perform engineering calculations, equipment sizing, component selection, and technical evaluations for retrofit and new facility projects.Support construction activities, commissioning efforts, and integration of new systems within active manufacturing environments.Serve as the mechanical engineering representative on multidisciplinary project teams.Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, process engineers, contractors, system owners, and client stakeholders.Interpret and develop engineering documentation including P&IDs, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), equipment layouts, details, and mechanical drawings.Evaluate project alternatives while balancing technical requirements, cost, schedule, constructability, and operational needs.Facilitate technical meetings, communicate project updates, and drive engineering decisions.Review vendor submittals, equipment documentation, and technical packages for compliance with project requirements and engineering specifications.Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, safety requirements, building codes, fire codes, and industry regulations.Support continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering processes and facility design standards.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.Minimum of 10 years of mechanical facilities design engineering experience.Minimum of 5 years of experience delivering engineering design projects.Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a facility engineer.Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license.Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, hydronic systems, process piping, exhaust systems, plumbing, and related mechanical infrastructure.Experience applying ASME standards, including ASME B31.3, building codes, fire codes, ASHRAE standards, and other applicable engineering regulations.Experience performing engineering calculations and selecting mechanical equipment and components.Experience reviewing vendor documentation and technical submittals for compliance with engineering requirements.Field experience supporting construction activities and coordinating with subcontractors and installation teams.Working knowledge of engineering documentation including P&IDs, PFDs, equipment plans, layouts, and construction details.Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, or similar engineering design software.Strong communication, technical writing, analytical problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting complex engineering projects.Work Requirements:This position requires full-time onsite work in Wilton, Connecticut.Ability to work in manufacturing, engineering, and construction environments.May require visits to active construction areas and manufacturing facilities while following all applicable safety requirements.Ability to participate in virtual meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams.Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
