Physical Security EngineerDuration: 7+ MonthsWork Model: HybridLocation: Portland, OR 97201, United StatesRole OverviewThis role is for a Physical Security Engineer responsible for designing, developing, and delivering security solutions for buildings, facilities, and mission-critical sites. The position involves end-to-end security system design, including assessments, concept creation, detailed engineering, cross-discipline coordination, and support for implementation and commissioning activities.The engineer will collaborate with internal SMEs, BIM/design teams, and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality, timely delivery of security engineering projects, particularly in data center and critical infrastructure environments.Key ResponsibilitiesLead physical security design efforts across multiple concurrent projectsConduct preliminary security assessments and develop design conceptsProduce schematics, drawings, schedules, and technical specificationsPerform engineering calculations (video storage, bandwidth, power load, etc.)Coordinate across architectural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teamsIdentify and resolve design conflicts and technical inconsistenciesSupport internal and external stakeholder communication and problem resolutionEnsure project deliverables are completed on time and meet quality standardsEvaluate emerging security technologies and assess trade-offs (e.g., camera systems, thermal imaging, radar vs LiDAR)Participate in design coordination with BIM and engineering teamsSupport customer and vendor technical discussionsContribute to construction documentation and implementation planningRequired QualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (required)Master's degree preferredExperience10+ years of experience in physical security system design, planning, and commissioningExperience with mid-to-large scale security projectsProject management experience is a plusTechnical SkillsStrong expertise in physical security systems including:Video surveillance systemsAccess control systemsIntercom systemsIntrusion detection systemsKnowledge of leading security technologies and vendorsExperience conducting vulnerability and risk assessmentsUnderstanding of security assessment methodologiesStrong understanding of networking and cybersecurity principlesAbility to evaluate and compare emerging security technologiesTools & SoftwareMicrosoft 365 / Office SuiteBluebeamAutoCAD, Revit, BIM360, ACC, MicroStation (preferred)Design collaboration toolsCSI specifications and construction documentation standardsExperience with project estimating and scheduling toolsPreferred QualificationsProfessional Engineering (PE) license preferredSecurity certifications such as CISSP, CPP, PSP, CCNA, RCDD (preferred)Experience in data center security designExperience leading projects and managing resourcesExperience mentoring junior engineersDesign management experienceSoft SkillsStrong problem-solving and analytical thinkingAbility to work independently and in cross-functional teamsStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentStrong collaboration and stakeholder management capabilitiesAdditional InformationFull-time roleHybrid work model (office + remote flexibility)US-based position with flexible locationMinimal travel required (1-5%)Focus on mission-critical and data center security environmentsStrong emphasis on design ownership, coordination, and delivery accountability
