Mechanic/Yard Operator

Mechanic/Yard OperatorPurpose/Summary:Under supervision of service center manager, this person performs complete repair of intermodal chassis, as well as move chassis in the facility by using heavy lift equipment and yard tractor and handle ingate and out gate activity.Key Responsibilities:Has the knowledge to complete all repairs on intermodal chassis including:Complete brake jobsElectrical systemsAir systemsLanding legsAll structural repairs that require welding and using a torchConduct FMCSA & BIT safety inspections.Drive heavy lift and yard tractor as required to support repair shop and yard operations.Perform in-gate and out-gate moves using the gate appPerform ingate inspections to identify any damages/repairs required.Technical Skills & Experience:Ability to read and understand work order.Ability to identify any additional repairs required that are not on an existing work orderAbility to operate a welding machine and cutting torchAbility to identify parts needed for repairsAbility to work to company standards with normal supervisionAbility to perform repairs within the time allowedUnderstand and adhere to all safety rules and requirementsAttention to qualityAbility to adapt to changing requirementsPunctual and reliable work attendanceMinimum 3 years experience as a heavy lift operatorPreferred 3 years of Trailer mechanical experience.Functional experience: stacking intermodal chassisFunctional experience: driving yard tractorOwn and maintain small tools required to perform duties.Physically able to perform heavy liftingEducation Level:Some high school educationCertified Welder, proficient in the various types of welding necessary to repair equipment including MIG and stick. Or able to obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
