A little about ourJuvenile Justice Programs: Our facilities support adolescents who arecommitted to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of YouthServices, (DYS). Helping young men, aged 12 to 21, make a successfultransition back to their home community. The team provides youth withnumerous intensive services such as individual and family therapy, lifeskills and anger management groups, substance abuse treatment, and leadin the development of a strengths-based treatment plan and safety plan.Your role as a Cook: The cook works as part of a team that isresponsible for the preparation and implementation of menus which meetthe nutritional and other requirements of the Bureau of Nutrition; thecooking of meals; compliance with all local, state, and federalsanitation and hygiene codes; and individual or group work withresidents engaged in vocational training. The cook will be supervised bythe Kitchen Manager. Essential functions of the job: Preparation andimplementation of varied and appetizing menu which meets nutritional andother standards of the Bureau of Nutrition. Responsible for cookingmeals each day and preparing evening snack, based on hours scheduled.Maintenance of clean kitchen, food storage, and dining areas.Maintenance of clean and kitchen equipment and tools. Compliance withall local, state and federal health and sanitation codes. Maintain asecure and safe kitchen and dining environment, that meets fire, firstaid, and other safety codes. Participation in pre-vocational culinaryarts educational program for residents. Attends staff meetings asrequired. Requirements: Must be 21 years of age. Serve SafeCertification preferred. Must have reliable transportation.Qualifications: Perform in a busy office setting various hours. Use ofpersonal vehicle required to travel between programs. Graduation fromapproved cooking school. Baking skills. Knowledge of local, state, andfederal sanitary and health codes. Prefer experience working withtroubled adolescents. Able to pass pre-assignment physical examination.Success Factors: Demonstrate patience, caring and compassion toward adifficult and potentially dangerous population High energy.Self-initiating, able to work autonomously. Open, direct interpersonalstyle with good teamwork and leadership skills. Has no physicalcondition which would result in experiencing and significant injury orharm due to the performance of the job. Presents self as a professionalWorks flexible schedule as necessary, including night and/or weekends.Enthusiasm and passion for the work they do. Ability to collaborate andadapt within a team environment. Strong communication and interpersonalskills. Ability to make decisions by using critical thinking skills.Strong Written Skills And Experience With Electronic Health RecordManagement is a plus.
