Position Summary
The Department of Computer Science (CS) at PSU invites applications for a non-tenure-track continuous appointment at the rank of Senior Instructor I. This is a 9-month, full-time position (1.0 FTE). The position is eligible for a continuous appointment following successful annual reviews during the probationary period and a final milestone review. Candidates should have a strong commitment to education, demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching, have the ability to motivate students in an engaging manner and be able to contribute to the department’s educational mission. The ideal candidate will develop, coordinate, and support a curriculum that significantly extends or enhances educational opportunities for students in the department. Priority will be given to candidates who best match the department’s teaching needs. This includes, but is not limited to, courses in the areas of internet, web, and cloud computing; cybersecurity and trusted systems; databases and data management; and/or machine learning and natural language processing.
Candidates for this position will typically be responsible for teaching three 4-credit courses each quarter in a broad range of courses in computer science. Additional responsibilities include service to the department, college, and university. While this position is focused on instructional responsibilities, additional supporting scholarly activities (including the pedagogy of engineering education) and service to the community and profession are expected.
Instructional Activities
Instructional activities are related to developing and teaching courses in computer science. Anticipated teaching and related duties include:
Teaching courses as assigned.
Participation in assessment and accreditation activities.
Preparation of students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession.
Creation of an inclusive classroom environment and experience.
Research/Scholarly Activities
The position is primarily focused on instructional responsibilities and is primarily evaluated with regard to their teaching and service.
University Service Activities
Serve on relevant school, college, or university committees. Participate in strategic meetings to advance departmental, college, and university educational initiatives.
Professional Service Activities
Candidates are encouraged to participate in professional societies such as related industry organizations.

Minimum Qualifications
Master of Science in Computer Science or related area with experience teaching college-level Computer Science courses.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
The annual salary range for this position is $60,000-$85,500, but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
