Position Type:Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds Equipment OperatorDate Posted:4/8/2026Location:Maintenance & OperationsDate Available:04/08/2026Closing Date:04/14/2026QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of basic methods, tools, and equipment used in the ground keeping trade; safe operations and routine maintenance of a variety of heavy motorized grounds keeping equipment; grounds keeping and landscape materials, their use and care and the accompanying safety procedures.Must possess the skill to read and write at a level sufficient for successful job performance; understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform general landscape and grounds keeping work; safely and effectively operate a variety of grounds keeping tools, machines, and equipment including motorized equipment; meet the physical requirements necessary to successfully perform required duties; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.One year of paid experience in grounds keeping, landscape or general labor work is required.Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid class "a" California commercial driver's license. If not currently in possession of a class "a" license, applicant must complete the state department of motor vehicles examination within 90 days of hire.Must submit a recent DMV (3 YEAR MINIMUM) driving RECORD with application.The successful candidate will be trained and responsible for the Kern High School District's needs with regards to asbestos and hazardous materials.A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK AND A PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL ASSESSMENT WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.DUTIES OF POSITION: To operate specialized grounds equipment used in the upkeep and maintenance of District grounds and to perform grounds maintenance work as assigned. Employees in this class receive supervision from a supervisory level and within a framework of standard policies and procedures. Positions in this class are assigned to a centralized crew, which performs grounds maintenance work for a number of school sites. This job class exercises responsibility for the safe operation and routine maintenance of specialized grounds equipment for the upkeep and maintenance of assigned District grounds.STARTING SALARY: $4,079.64 (monthly)NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible)
