Jr High Theatre Teacher Grades 7-8Position SummaryThe Jr. High Theatre Teacher is responsible for teaching dramatic arts in grades 7th-8th and delivering high-quality instruction in drama and theatre arts that engages students in performance, production, and critical analysis. The teacher will introduce students to the fundamentals of theatre and performance while fostering their growth through engaging, age-appropriate experiences at the beginning and intermediate levels. The teacher will create a positive, organized, and student-centered environment that encourages creativity, building confidence, and collaboration.This position includes teaching theatre courses for 7th and 8th grade students, aligned with the Arkansas Department of Education Drama Standards, as well as supervising extracurricular rehearsals, performances, and related activities.Essential Tasks And ResponsibilitiesTeaching beginning and intermediate theatre classes for grades 7-8Create a classroom environment that actively engages students and is developmentally appropriateEmploy a variety of instructional and assessment strategies including, but not limited to, direct instruction, guided practice, demonstrations, discussions, and learning activities to facilitate knowledge and skill developmentPlan, develop, and execute lessons that reflect the course curriculum.Establishing and sponsoring Junior Thespians troupe while working alongside another junior high theatre teacherDirecting an optional one-act play for competition at the Arkansas Thespians One-Act FestivalAssisting in the direction of high school mainstage musicalsAttending Junior Thespians and Arkansas State Thespians festivals, and overnight trips as neededAssisting with the high school theatre program as neededCollaborating closely with high school theatre directors to support a cohesive 7-12 programAssisting with and helping lead theatre camps for younger studentsOrganizing and supervising rehearsals, performances, and theatre-related eventsSupporting student growth in performance, introductions, to technical theatre, and overall performance skillsContinually communicate with students and parents about academic and behavioral expectationsIntegrate cross-disciplinary connections between theatre and other academic subjectsNote: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. Applicant without current endorsements are eligible to apply for hire provided they are fully willing and able to obtain the required CDL certifications.Contract Days: 190Salary: Certified Teacher Salary Schedule
