Road And Bridge Construction And Maintenance PositionThis is a general road and bridge construction and maintenance position which operates light trucks (non-CDL), road construction and maintenance equipment. The position works on road construction and or maintenance projects and assists in processing and delivery of road materials. The position requires the operation of non-CDL trucks and various types of NON-CDL trucks, specialized and heavy-duty construction equipment and is under the supervision of the Team Leader and Road Maintenance Supervisor and/or his/her designee. Maintain grounds/land and roads of Finney County through equipment operation: Operate a variety of non CDL regulated trucks, construction equipment (light and medium), maintenance machinery, and material processing equipment necessary for road construction or maintenance projects. Repairs and constructs roadway surface failures and potholes; seals cracks in pavement, maintains roadways, shoulders, and slopes; waters and rolls gravel; sweeps and cleans roads as necessary. Operate machinery and equipment in a safe manner to process, move, load, and store road construction materials as directed. Operate machinery and equipment to construct and/ or maintain roads as directed, includes crack and asphalt repair. Mow and clean ditches, ensure intersections are clear, and install and maintain culverts to allow for proper water flow. Clear trash from roadside. Set, install, and maintain clean culverts to allow for proper water flow. Attach accessories properly to equipment as needed. Load and move screen product as needed. Maintain an assigned maintenance section with a motor grader, tractor and mower attachment, or other vehicle and equipment a needed. Complete accurate daily paperwork as required for construction and/or maintenance activities. Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on assigned equipment and/or vehicles, to include checking fluid levels, lubrication and fuel and tire repair. Maintain accurate vehicle and equipment maintenance records. Communicate potential hazards to the public to supervisor. Assist in maintaining a clean Road and Bridge shop. Attend training needed to perform the functions of the job such as mine safety training, OSHA, Hazmat. First Aid/ CPR, Defensive Driving. Perform manual labor in clearing ditches, hand loading equipment and tools, uses shovels, wrenches, and other tools to achieve tasks. Assist in other areas of the department as needed. Maintains awareness of safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment including properly wearing and using personal safety equipment. Respond to change productively and complete other tasks as assigned. Performs traffic control activities, as needed, and observes roadway courtesies. Follows safety regulations on all work zone and flagging sites, including placing barricades and cones, reports safety hazards and traffic problems. Assist various departments as needed. Maintains, repairs, and services department vehicles, equipment, and facilities: Perform maintenance and safety checks on assigned equipment and/or vehicles, to include checking fluid levels, lubrication, and fueling and tire repair; complete necessary documentation and maintain maintenance/service records as required for construction and or maintenance activities, equipment, and vehicles. Assist in the maintenance and cleanliness of the Road and Bridge shop. Maintain cleanliness of department breakrooms and bathrooms. Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require. Requirements: Excellent verbal and written English language skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Proficient in basic computer systems and software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, email, timekeeping software, work order inputs) Ability to complete daily work and maintenance records clearly and legibly. Ability to operate vehicles and light to heavy duty construction and specialized equipment. Ability to perform welding. Ability to use shop tools and equipment. Knowledge of and ability to perform equipment operation procedures Knowledge and understanding of equipment maintenance and service procedures, including the tools necessary to complete assignment. Knowledge of occupational hazards, necessary safety precautions, policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to equipment operation and work zones. Valid driver's license Kansas Flagger Certification within 90 days of hire. Ability to obtain First aid and CPR certificates Ability to obtain Defensive driving certification PPE training MSHA training OSHA training Occasional overtime Occasional travel Subject to call out Regular and reliable attendance onsite at work location
