Embedded Software Engineer - Firmware

Location: Onsite — Simi Valley, CAEmployment Type: Direct HireIndustry: Multi-Billion-Dollar Aerospace CompanyJob OverviewThe Embedded Software Engineer II will design, develop, and debug embedded software for advanced aerospace systems. In this role, you will work in small, cross-functional teams to solve engineering challenges, support new and existing core products, and contribute to industry-leading technology in a fast-paced environment.Core ResponsibilitiesCapture, decompose, and derive functional requirements to develop detailed technical specifications.Apply software standards and use technical specifications to design, develop, integrate, and test safety-critical embedded software using both standard and model-based development methodologies.Author design documentation and develop low-level drivers for microcontrollers and related peripherals.Perform, track, and control project activities, including managing external subcontractors and offshore verification partners.Provide guidance to team members on best practices and safety-critical software development.Prepare and deliver periodic status reports for key internal stakeholders.Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives, including tool and process standardization.Work within a collaborative software engineering environment using modern source-control practices.Exercise independent judgment and discretion on significant engineering matters.QualificationsStrong experience programming in C at the low level (microcontrollers, drivers, hardware interaction).Experience in software verification for embedded systems.Proficiency with version control and configuration management tools.Experience with system verification using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.).Ideally, familiarity with aerospace compliance standards such as DO-178B/C and SOI audit experience.Strong analytical and systematic problem-solving abilities.Fundamental understanding of engineering principles, concepts, and techniques.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Education & ExperienceBachelor's degree in an Engineering or Technical Science discipline (Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, etc.).Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
