Required Skills & Experience•Minimum 3 years’ experience as a machinist•Skilled in proofreading G&M code to prevent crashes or mistakes, and conducting test runs to ensure program accuracy.•Skilled in performing machine setups with minimal instructions.•Comprehensive knowledge of measuring instruments, including tape measures, calipers, OD micrometers, depth micrometers, bore gauges, surface gauges, height gauges, gauge pins, gauge blocks, pitch micrometers, ID micrometers, blade micrometers, thickness gauges, and radius gauges.•Ability to correctly square up materials.•Capable of effectively operating power-driven equipment.•Understanding of tool deflection and methods to mitigate it across different materials.•Knowledgeable about part flatness and techniques to achieve it with various materials.•Requires high levels of mental and visual effort.•High school diploma or equivalentNice to Have Skills & ExperienceCompletion of formal apprenticeship program or completion of in-company, four-year training programJob DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC machinery to produce high-precision components. In this role, you will read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and shop sketches to determine machining requirements, then set up and operate CNC equipment to perform tasks such as drilling, milling, and grinding. You will also utilize conventional machine shop equipment to cut, machine, and shape raw materials in accordance with drawing specifications, while building and modifying fixtures or holding devices to properly secure workpieces during production.The CNC Machinist will analyze job requirements and apply best shop practices to achieve accuracy and efficiency, ensuring all parts meet strict GD&T tolerance standards. Responsibilities include inspecting precision components, selecting proper tooling, determining optimal feeds and speeds for various materials, and ensuring high-quality surface finishes. You will monitor multiple machines simultaneously, making adjustments to tool offsets and editing G & M code as needed to maintain tolerances and performance. Additional responsibilities include checking tool runout, managing tool wear and compensation, and setting tool offsets, diameter compensation, and multiple 3-axis work offsets within a program.This role requires the ability to perform machine setups with little to no instruction, as well as edit CNC programs both at the controller and offline using text-based files. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while consistently producing high-quality parts.This role is minimum on site 4 days a week in Portsmouth VA. Work schedule is 4 x 10 hours days with option overtime on Fridays when work load allows.Compensation: $27/hr-$37/hr. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
