Beginning 2026-2027 School YearJob SummaryThe elementary school is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Elementary Band Teacher to inspire young musicians and foster a love of music through instrumental instruction for students. This position is responsible for teaching instrumental music to elementary students, developing ensemble skills, and creating a positive, inclusive musical learning environment. We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about teaching music and working with students of all backgrounds and skilllevels.Instruction and Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging band instruction aligned with state music standards Teach proper instrument technique, music theory, and ensemble performance skills Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, including gifted students and those needing additional support Assess student progress regularly and maintain detailed recordsEnsemble Leadership Direct band rehearsals, focusing on musicianship, intonation, and collaborative performance Prepare ensembles for concerts, festivals, and community performances Foster a supportive ensemble culture that values teamwork and musical excellenceStudent Support and Engagement Build positive relationships with students and encourage musical growth Provide instrument care guidance and maintenance support Communicate regularly with families about student progress and musical opportunities Mentor students in discipline, responsibility, and self-expression through musicProgram Development and Collaboration Maintain and organize music equipment and instruments Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to integrate music across the curriculum Participate in school events, performances, and assemblies Contribute to professional development and stay current with best practices in music educationKnowledge, Skills And Abilities Excellent musicianship and technical instrumental skill Strong organizational and time-management abilities Creative lesson planning and adaptability Patience, enthusiasm, and passion for music education Ability to inspire and motivate young learnersQualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Education or a relatedfield Valid state of Iowa teachinglicense/certification in musiceducation Two to three years of experience teaching and directly band performances preferred Knowledge of elementary music pedagogy and child development Ability to manage classroom behavior and create an inclusive learning environment Strong knowledge of and proficiency in various musical instruments Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and school administrators in a PLC.
