Police Officer PositionThe City of Heyburn is seeking community engaged police officers to join our team. These benefit offerings are subject to change or termination in the sole discretion of the City Council. Each benefit offering is subject to the specific terms of its respective insurance policy and/or official resolution of the City Council. The City uses the calendar year rather than the date of employment for calculating leave benefit time for City employees. If an employee chooses to separate employment with the city but is later rehired, all years of service for the purpose of calculating benefits will start from the date of rehire (no credit for prior service).A. VACATION LEAVEVacation leave is available to full-time regular employees. Vacation leave accrues at the following rate and is based on calendar year:First Year "0 Year" 9 Days (72 Hours accrued at 6 hours per month).1 Year to 2 Years 9 Days (72 Hours)3 Years to 4 Years 14 Days (112 Hours)5 Years to 9 Years 19 Days (152 Hours)10 Years to 20 Years 24 Days (192 Hours)1 Day per year thereafterNo employee can accumulate Vacation Leave. If not taken during the calendar year ending in December 31st, no further vacation time may accrue for the new year beyond what is already permitted for that year. If work requirements imposed by the City prevented taking the vacation leave during the calendar year, the vacation leave must be scheduled and taken within six months of January 1st of the following year.Vacation leave is to be scheduled with consent of the responsible department supervisor. Efforts will be made to accommodate the preference of the employee in vacation scheduling, but first-priority will be the orderly functioning of affected departments. Upon separation from employment, unused vacation leave up to the maximum allowed accrual will be compensated by lump-sum payment at the then-current hourly or daily rate.B. SICK LEAVESick leave benefits are offered on a calendar year basis to regular full-time employees, accumulating at a rate of 4 hours per month until the end of the first calendar year for new employees. After the first calendar year, employees will receive the full 48-hour allocation at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Sick leave is a benefit provided to the employee when an illness or injury prevents the employee from working productively or safely, or when an immediate family member's (spouse, child, parent) illness presents no practical alternative for necessary care. Sick leave must be requested at least within two hours of the time the scheduled work period is to begin, unless circumstances outside the control of the employee prevent such notice.Sick leave can only be accrued up to the maximum of 480 hours (60 days). Once an employee reaches the maximum accrual, no additional sick leave will accrue until the employee's accrued hours are reduced below the maximum. Sick leave shall not be taken in advance of being earned and shall be taken in pay periods subsequent to being earned.Sick leave benefit recipients will receive their normal compensation when using sick leave. All unused sick leave upon separation from employment will be paid to the employee up to and no more than 480 hours of accumulated sick leave.C. HOLIDAYSAny employee normally eligible for holiday benefits shall be paid a maximum of 8 hours straight pay for a day designated and observed as a holiday under the provisions of these rules or such other day as authorized by the mayor.Any employee who is required to work on a day designated as a holiday under the provisions of these rules or such other day as authorized by the mayor, shall be paid holiday pay on said day, in addition to the holiday straight pay. MATERNITY LEAVEMaternity Leave is a temporary absence from an employee's position and applies to expectant or new parents who require time off for needs related to pregnancy, childbirth, and placement (for adoption or foster care).
