This role requires strong ownership, technical understanding, and the ability to operate effectively in fast-paced prototype and pre-production environments.Key ResponsibilitiesPrototype Build ExecutionCoordinate prototype build activities across engineering, manufacturing, and external suppliersEnsure readiness of build facilities, tooling, fixtures, and required resources for upcoming buildsLead daily build stand-ups and drive cross-functional issue resolutionOversee prototype assembly to ensure alignment with engineering requirementsProvide real-time support to technicians with drawings, CAD data, and work instructionsIdentify, track, and escalate build issues to engineering and program leadershipEnsure adherence to safety standards and shop floor best practicesManufacturing Engineering SupportSupport development and continuous improvement of work instructions and standardized build processesDefine and refine process flows and build sequences for prototype activitiesCapture shop floor feedback and translate it into actionable improvementsValidate tooling and fixture readiness prior to build executionParts & Supplier CoordinationTrack prototype parts availability and coordinate with supply chain to meet build timelinesManage part shortages, substitutions, and configuration changesEnsure BOM accuracy and maintain configuration control throughout build lifecycleWork directly with suppliers to resolve delivery, quality, and fitment issuesDocumentation & ReportingMaintain build logs, issue tracking systems, and documentation across all build phasesProvide clear and consistent updates to engineering and program stakeholdersDocument lessons learned and drive continuous improvement initiativesCoordinate vehicle readiness and handoff to testing teamsCandidate ProfileHands-on, shop floor–oriented engineer with experience in prototype and launch environmentsStrong ownership mindset with the ability to anticipate issues and drive resolution independentlyComfortable working across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain functionsDetail-oriented, structured, and adaptable in dynamic build conditionsStrong communicator with the ability to influence and drive accountability without direct authorityResilient under pressure, especially during critical build and launch phasesRequired Qualifications5+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing, prototype builds, or launch environmentsDirect experience supporting prototype or pre-production builds (OEM or Tier 1)Strong understanding of BOM management and configuration controlAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and CAD modelsExperience working with suppliers on delivery and quality issuesHands-on experience on the shop floor with build teams and techniciansStrong coordination, planning, and organizational skillsProficiency in tools such as Excel, Smartsheet, or similar tracking systemsExcellent cross-functional communication skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience with ERP systems such as NetSuiteFamiliarity with PLM tools like Windchill or TeamcenterExposure to ECR / ECN / change management processesExperience in EV, automotive startups, or low-volume / high-mix manufacturingLean, Six Sigma, or PMP certificationALTEN Technology is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
