Tax Strategist / Tax Preparer – Profit Wise Accounting (Huntsville, AL) Full-Time | In-Office | Competitive Pay + Growth Path Profit Wise Accounting is expanding and seeking a high-level Tax Strategist and Tax Preparer who is passionate about saving clients money, optimizing tax positions, and delivering an exceptional advisory experience. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review individual and business tax returns (1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S) Participate in tax-planning meetings and advisory sessions with clients Create proactive tax plans, projections, and tax-strategy summaries Analyze client financials to identify tax-saving strategies and planning opportunities Meet with clients to explain tax strategies in simple, understandable terms Conduct research on federal and state tax laws, IRS guidance, and compliance updates Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules as needed Assist with IRS notices, amendments, penalty abatements, and tax problem resolution Collaborate with accounting and payroll teams to ensure a unified client experience Maintain strong documentation, workpapers, and support files Stay current on new tax regulations, credits, deductions, and planning strategies Experience & Qualifications 2+ years minimum tax preparation experience required In-depth knowledge of federal and state tax laws Experience with business returns (S corps, partnerships, C corps) highly preferred Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills Familiarity with tax software (TaxDome, Drake, UltraTax, etc.) Knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement understanding Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy Ability to effectively communicate complex tax concepts to clients Strong written communication for drafting tax plans and strategic recommendations Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment Preferred but not required: EA or CPA designation Experience in tax resolution Background in advisory-focused accounting firms Experience implementing proactive tax strategies (Augusta Rule, accountable plans, entity restructuring, depreciation planning, etc.) Key Skills Proficiency in financial statement interpretation Ability to identify opportunities for tax planning Strong organizational and time-management skills High responsiveness and follow-through with clients Comfort with fast-paced, changing priorities during tax season What We Offer Competitive compensation with performance-based increases Health benefits Retirement plan with company match Professional development (EA/CPA support, tax strategy training) A high-performance environment that values excellence, growth, and client impact Work-life balance with a supportive, ambitious team About Profit Wise Profit Wise Accounting is a tax, payroll, and advisory firm committed to helping small business owners build wealth, increase profit, and reduce taxes through proactive financial strategy.
