Software engineering support to the electric and magnetic (E/H) field sensing team of the EM Effects Branch to support mission and customer projects related to novel E/H-field sensing methods, low size weight and power (SWaP) E/H-field sensor systems. Specifically, software engineering support to design, write, and test edge-AI software for Single Board Computers (SBCs), Systems On a Chip (SoCs), and ARM Microcontrollers.
*Job Description:*
The candidate will be strong contributor for software development projects ranging from embedded programming, data exchange over limited bandwidth networks, and embedded AI algorithms. The candidate will regularly contribute and co-manage team code repositories, and must demonstrate the ability to independently architect, write, and test software algorithms in Python and C/C++. The overall goal is to mature, test, and demonstrate resilient code in compliance with measurement standards and security. Will work alongside and collaborate with other computer scientists, computer engineers, electrical engineers, and experts in the fields of electronics, sensing, and artificial intelligence.
*Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities:*
* Software development in Python or C/C++ working with both established and novel embedded software systems, and development of new firmware for deployment at the edge
* Coordinate scheduling of software deliverables and stress testing firmware deliverables under speed, memory, and environmental stresses.
* Support an efficient software development team by following ARL standard operating procedures (SOPs) and software-specific standards from the International Organization for Standardization
* Mature, test, and demonstrate development code in a TRL 3 -> 6 environment, focusing on software resilience, standards compliance, code security, etc.
* Generate user manuals, generate user guides, and update GIT repositories for internal and external customers
* Support external transitions of sensor systems by conducting on-site software deployment and updates (total travel < 10%)
*Skills and Knowledge:*
* Demonstrated Experience with Embedded Systems: ARM Cortex M0, M4, or M33 processors such as the nRF5x, STM32, or MSP microcontroller. Single-Board Computers (SBC) such as the Raspberry Pi or Jetson Nano.
* Demonstrated experience leading software development in Python and C
* Demonstrated experience configuring and utilizing Linux-based Operating Systems e.g. Ubuntu or DEBIAN
* Demonstrated experience writing or leveraging embedded libraries for DSP and AI/ML
* Writing/Communication: Documentation of software and firmware in the form of user's guides, user's manuals, and/or Git/GitLAB repositories
* Knowledge and experience with LabVIEW, Simulink, or GO software helpful, but not required.
*Minimum Education/experience requirements (at least one of the following):*
* 1) Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, plus several years (5 or more) work experience
* 2) Masters degree in any of the above fields, plus multiple years (2 or more) work experience
* 3) Doctorate degree in any of the above fields

The selected candidate will be an employee of General Technical Services LLC (GTS).
