Civil Engineering CAD Intern

Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is seeking a motivated CAD Intern to join our civil Engineering team in our Christiansburg office. This position is ideal for a student or recent graduate interested in developing hands-on experience in construction plan drafting and general project support within a civil engineering environmentThis internship is designed as a training opportunity with the goal of identifying a strong long-term candidate for future full-time employment.We are looking for someone with strong potential and the ability to learn, even if they do not yet have professional experience.ResponsibilitiesAssist in preparing and revising civil engineering construction plans using AutoCADDraft plan sheets, details, profiles, and related design documentsApply established company and industry drafting standardsIncorporate markups and revisions from engineers and project managersHelp create technical reports, cost estimates, and project documentationAssist with preparation of permit applications and submission packagesSupport file organization, document management, and other administrative project tasksLearn how engineering concepts are translated into construction documents and regulatory submittalsQualificationsStrong attention to detail and accuracyAbility to follow standards, templates, and technical instructions consistentlyGood spatial reasoning and visualization skillsAbility to understand how individual drawing elements fit into an overall projectStrong written and organizational skills for reports and documentationAbility to learn and willingness accept feedbackDependability and ability to work in an office team environment Preferred QualificationsCoursework, training, or certification in AutoCAD / CAD draftingExperience with technical drawing, drafting, architecture, engineering graphics, or design softwareInterest in civil engineering, land development, transportation, utilities, or infrastructure projectsNo prior professional experience is required.
