Position SummaryThe Mechanical Engineer will support the development of deployable solar energy products from concept through production release.This role will be responsible for detailed design execution, design refinement, engineering analysis, documentation, prototype support, and engineering change implementation. The engineer will work closely with internal engineering leadership, outsourced design resources, manufacturing partners, and suppliers to ensure designs are manufacturable, properly documented, and configuration controlled.The ideal candidate understands that engineering is more than creating CAD models—it includes configuration management, supplier collaboration, design iteration, manufacturing support, and continuous product improvement.Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design & Product DevelopmentCreate and modify mechanical designs using SolidWorksDevelop parts, assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, and electromechanical assembliesPerform design iterations based on testing, manufacturing feedback, supplier input, and field performanceGenerate engineering drawings, specifications, and supporting documentationParticipate in design reviews and technical problem-solving activitiesSupport prototype development and engineering testingDesign Integration & Supplier CollaborationReview and integrate CAD models received from outsourced engineering firms and suppliersValidate outsourced designs for manufacturability, quality, and compliance with company standardsCoordinate technical changes with engineering partners and manufacturersCollaborate with suppliers to resolve design, tolerance, manufacturing, and assembly issuesSupport first article inspections and manufacturing readiness reviewsConfiguration Management & DocumentationMaintain accurate engineering documentation within Arena PLM and SolidWorks PDMCreate and manage Bills of Material (BOMs)Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and revision control processesEnsure design files, drawings, and product structures remain properly synchronizedMaintain engineering documentation in accordance with company configuration management standardsManufacturing & Product RealizationSupport prototype and production buildsParticipate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviewsSupport supplier qualification and manufacturing process developmentAssist with root cause investigations and corrective actionsSupport transition from prototype to productionEngineering AnalysisPerform engineering calculations and tolerance stack analysesEvaluate design concepts for strength, weight, manufacturability, and costSupport design verification activitiesDevelop test plans and assist with validation testingRequired QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering3–5 years of mechanical product development experienceProficiency with SolidWorksExperience creating production drawings and engineering documentationExperience with BOM-driven product developmentFamiliarity with revision control and engineering change processesUnderstanding of manufacturing methods including:Sheet metalWeldmentsMachined componentsInjection molded componentsMechanical assembliesStrong communication and organizational skillsAbility to work effectively with suppliers and external engineering resourcesComfortable working in a fast-paced small-company environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience with Arena PLMExperience with SolidWorks PDMExperience with government-funded R&D programsExperience with deployable structures or renewable energy productsFamiliarity with electromechanical systemsGD&T proficiencyFEA experienceExperience supporting contract manufacturersExperience participating in first article inspections and manufacturing release activitiesThe ideal candidate is not simply a CAD designer.
