Head of Engineering
Position SummaryThe Director of Engineering is ShineOn's on-site technical leader, responsible for the architecture, performance and growth of the systems that power our manufacturing and e-commerce operations. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will set technical direction, own delivery, manage a small team of engineers and stay close to the code yourself. You will report directly to the CTO and partner with Operations, Product, Manufacturing, Support and Marketing to align engineering execution with the needs of the business and our merchant community.ShineOn is a leading print on-demand manufacturer offering a wide-range of personalized gifts; fulfilled across thousands of independent e-commerce stores. We're looking for an expert engineer to act as our technical lead to support growth in B2B fulfillment, improve speed of new product launches, and further integrate automation and AI into our product creation and manufacturing systems.This role is based on-site at our manufacturing facility in Lutz Florida. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with manufacturing peers to build automation and software for industrial printers and lasers, picking and fulfillment workflows and shipping systems.What You'll OwnSet technical direction and architecture across the full stack (Laravel, MySQL, Vue)Lead, mentor and grow a small engineering teamOwn AWS infrastructure decisions, scaling strategy and cost management (EC2, S3, RDS, heavy use of Lambdas for serverless execution)Drive development of custom Shopify stores and headless e-commerce solutionsArchitect and execute complex third-party API integrationsStay hands-on: contribute code, conduct architecture and code reviews, and uphold quality through automated testing and CI/CDEnsure system uptime, performance and database healthPartner with Operations leadership as a confident cross-functional collaborator - bringing data, conviction and composure to a fast-moving, high-accountability environmentTranslate complex technical constraints into clear business tradeoffsOther duties as assignedHead of Engineering RequirementsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field required8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 2+ years in a lead or management capacityDirect experience leading engineering in an order fulfillment or warehouse operations environment - you've walked the floor, understand pick-pack-ship operations and have built systems that hold up under real-world throughputDeep expertise in PHP (Laravel) and JavaScript/TypeScriptProven track record building and managing infrastructure in AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda)Extensive experience with the Shopify ecosystem and API-driven e-commerceStrong understanding of RESTful and GraphQL API design and microservices architectureWhat Sets a Great Candidate ApartExceptional problem-solving and system design skillsComfortable on the warehouse floor - understands fulfillment workflows, throughput constraints and operational tradeoffs firsthandAbility to distill complex technical constraints into actionable business conceptsHighly autonomous with a strong sense of urgency regarding system uptime and bug resolutionExperience managing AI agents and AI CI/CD solutions desiredExposure to industrial automation, manufacturing software or hardware integration is a plusTools You'll Work WithAWS Console & CLIDocker, CI/CD Pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions)Code repositories (GitHub/GitLab)Linear and Outline for spring alignment and technical documentation
