This role provides technical leadership in the development of scalable, secure, and highly available voice infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with organizational objectives, and serving as SME, guiding strategic voice initiatives, supporting complex deployments, and driving continuous improvement across the voice environment.The successful candidate will have grown up in TDM/SONET, then transitioned into VoIP/SIP, stayed hands‑on with LERG and numbering, has carrier‑grade experience, and operates at a principal/architect level.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed below are a range of duties performed by the employee and not intended to reflect all duties performed.Voice Switching & Network OperationsProvide support for SIP and TDM based soft switch translations, facilities and features on the Metaswitch Call Agent and Media Gateways, Enhanced Application Servers, and SBCs.Maintaining and updating LERG daily.Extensive experience supporting central office switching and softswitch platforms, including legacy TDM systems (e.g., Nortel DMS-100, Lucent 5ESS) and modern VoIP/SIP infrastructures.Protocol Expertise & TroubleshootingDeep expertise in SS7, SIP, PRI, media gateways, and session border controllers, including trunk provisioning, call routing, E911, and inter-carrier interconnects.Proven ability to troubleshoot end-to-end voice issues across TDM and IP transport layers, ensuring high availability in geographically redundant central office environments.Architecture, Design & EngineeringSupport Product Engineering with systems architecture planning, system implementation guidelines, and engineering guidelines.Perform lab testing, design, and architecture work.Architect new VoIP products and features.Product Development & Vendor CoordinationCoordinate with vendors, analyze appropriate product offering and develop new products and services for network.Test and approval of new product sets.Operational Support & Project LeadershipProvide technical assistance and support to other Service Management teams.Assist management with all high priority projects and prepare technical presentations.Provide off-hours, on-call, and weekend coverage as required.Limited travel (possibly 10–20%) is required, including potential attendance at conferences and business events such as symposiums.Other DutiesPerforms other duties as required to support the business and evolving organization.Required Qualifications:5+ years in telecom engineering with deep TDM and SONET experienceExpert‑level knowledge of SIP, RTP, SBCs, ENUM, STIR/SHAKENHands‑on experience with LERG administration and number managementStrong background with softswitches (Metaswitch, Ribbon/Genband, BroadSoft, etc.)Experience with NPAC, NANPA, number pooling, and LNP processesAbility to diagnose complex multi‑layer call failures end‑to‑endProven leadership in designing and operating carrier‑grade networksExcellent communication and documentation skillsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to work independently and apply sound judgment and reasoning skills to a variety of situations.Ability to multi-task and collaborate effectively with other personnel to meet deadlines.Strong verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.Ability to work within critical deadlines.Ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities and schedules.Ability to provide excellent customer service.Work AuthorizationApplicants must be currently authorized to work in the US for any employer.
