Position Type:Certified/Licensed/Teacher, Hearing ImpairedDate Posted:2/24/2026Location:SASED Program at Member District BuildingDate Available:08/10/2026Closing Date:05/15/2026Program DescriptionPay Transparency**2026-2027 Contract under negotiationsTitle: Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of HearingReports To: Program Administrator/CoordinatorJob Goal:To work with students with hearing disabilities; assisting students and staff so that the students can be successful in the least restrictive setting.Qualifications:B.S. required, M.S. preferred.Illinois PEL for hearing impaired,Signed English required, familiarity of ASL preferredLow incidence experience preferredPrevious teaching experience preferred.Duties and Responsibilities:Review available medical/audiological information pertaining to the student's performance and probable use of hearing; obtaining updated medical/audiological information and share with parent, teacher, and other appropriate staffShare functional auditory and language information with the mainstream teacher so that the student receives any necessary classroom or acoustic modificationsMonitor the condition and use of appropriate amplification equipment for each studentCommunicate with Consultant and Diagnostic staff as appropriateDevelop, as part of a team, an appropriate individualized educational program for each student on the class list, and implement this programProvide instruction to each hearing impaired student on the class list, as appropriateDevelop lesson plans for implementing instructionIn-service mainstream teachers and other support personnel as appropriate, including suggestions for environmental modifications, as well as suggestions for materials, and use of an interpreter, if neededMake regular contact with parents of students and keep records of contacts, including updating short range objectives and other appropriate recordsProvide emotional support for students and families to promote understanding and coping skills for children's hearing lossDemonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of language development and language refinement needed by hearing impaired childrenDemonstrate skills necessary to communicate effectively and to provide a complete English model for hearing impaired children using a Total Communication approachDemonstrate knowledge and ability to implement the following specialized areas:auditory trainingspeech and speech readingmonitoring amplificationuse and maintenance of hearing aidsuse of interpretertotal communicationEstablish open, frequent communication with parents, staff, and related services personnel.Attend staff and professional meetings as requestedAppropriately provide and interpret progress and technical data for all personnel and parents at conferences, annual reviews, and staffingsPresent appropriate and specific information at staff conferencesMaintain schedule, be punctual, and meet assigned responsibilitiesEstablish and maintain a positive atmosphere in working with staff in order that this atmosphere may be carried over for the hearing impaired studentUse good organizational skills and flexibility to establish appropriate schedules for student and selfMaintain up to date skills related to teaching students by attending staff development opportunitiesNothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.Terms of Employment: 184 day work year at compensation set by the SASED Board of Directors.Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated every year until tenure has been achieved.
