This role is responsible for ensuring safe reliable and cost-effective operation of all plant equipment and facilities.The Maintenance Manager owns equipment uptime, preventative and predictive maintenance programs, and the overall effectiveness of the maintenance organization. This role leads a team of maintenance technicians and mechanics, partners cross-functionally with Production, Quality Assurance (QA), Sanitation, and Engineering, and drives continuous improvement through reliability-centered maintenance, TPM principles, and data-driven decision-making in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Manager should have strong leadership skills, hands-on industrial maintenance experience, and a background in food manufacturing or bakery operations.Essential Functions: Maintenance Leadership and OperationsLead, supervise and develop maintenance technicians, mechanics and external contractors.Plan, prioritize and oversee daily maintenance activities across all shifts.Coordinate emergency repairs and minimize production downtime.Partner with Production, Quality Assurance, Sanitation, Engineering and Continuous Improvement teams to support plant performance goals.Support installation, startup, commissioning, and validation of new equipment and capital projects.Maintain a positive working environment through collaboration and effective communication.Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the facility.Equipment Reliability and PerformanceOwn and improve equipment uptime, OEE, reliability, and preventive maintenance (PM) compliance.Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs.Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, refrigeration, and PLC-controlled systems.Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for chronic equipment failures and implement permanent corrective actions.Systems, CMMS, and DocumentationMaintain and improve CMMS and work order processesEnsure accurate maintenance records, asset data, and documentationManage spare parts strategy, inventory controls, and standardizationDevelop maintenance SOPs, best practices, and training materialsSafety, Food Safety and ComplianceEnsure compliance with OSHA, GMP, HACCP, SQF, and all food safety and regulatory requirementsEnforce safe work practices, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and preventive maintenance standardsSupport audits, inspections, and corrective action follow-upDemonstrates and adheres to all employee safety, human resources, food safety, and quality requirements, including but not limited to understanding the proper use of PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) and plant specific GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices)Continuous Improvement & Cost ControlDrive TPM, autonomous maintenance, and reliability improvement initiativesManage maintenance budgets, spend, and cost-saving initiativesIdentify opportunities to improve operational efficiency without compromising safety or product qualityEquipment and SystemsThis role supports and maintains a wide range of industrial bakery and food manufacturing equipment, including, but not limited to:Industrial ovensMixers and dough handling equipmentConveyors and material handling systemsPackaging and high-speed production machinerySpiral coolers and freezersPumps, motors, compressors, and utilitiesPneumatic and hydraulic systemsPLC systems and automation controlsRefrigeration systemsPosition Location: This is an on-site role based in Hayward, California, to support the bakery and company headquarters. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance to Hayward.QualificationsRequired5–10+ years of industrial maintenance experience3+ years of maintenance leadership or supervisory experienceExperience in food manufacturing, bakery, beverage, or FMCG environmentsStrong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skillsExperience with CMMS and preventive maintenance systemsWorking knowledge of OSHA and food safety regulationsAbility to work a flexible schedule, including off-shifts or weekends as requiredPreferredBachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or a technical certificationPLC troubleshooting experienceHigh-speed packaging or automated production line experienceLean Manufacturing, TPM, or Continuous Improvement backgroundBilingual English / Spanish
